Played under floodlights at Heywood Lane, both U14s sides served up a feast of running rugby, Tenby's dominance at forward proving the difference between them.

Tenby opened strongly and forceful play saw them drive deep into Narberth territory where Oliver Morgan was on hand to claim the opening try with a sniping run down the blindside. Oliver, however, was having an off day with the boot and failed with all conversion attempts.

Tenby's front five continued to put pressure on the Narberth side, with Rob Clarke and Paul Dalline showing power and solidity in all they did. The strength of these two props enables Tenby to turn defence into attack and they are quickly becoming cornerstones for the attacking platform; both had exceptional games.

The Tenby lineout is also functioning supremely. Ieuan Rowell and Jack Lawrence have formed a strong link here and Ieuan is now challenging the opposition throw as well, testimony to protection afforded him by his lifters.

In addition to the sterling efforts of the above, comes 'man of the match' Rob Tuttle. Three tries, two from storming runs, where he proved unstoppable, earned Robbie the match plaudits, although he was quick to praise the team effort and the home cooking of Mrs. Clark!

Narberth never gave up the ghost and came back at Tenby. Running well with ball in hand, they assailed the Tenby lead with two fine tries, which were converted to keep the young Otters always in the hunt.

Tenby's team effort was galvanised behind with an impressive display from Matthew 'Ginger' Jones, who has pace to spare, and the strong tackling of heavy hitters Rob Whitfield and Matthew Fleming.

Due to an influx of new players, Tenby were forced to 'ring the changes' and the hard working David Saunders, Ben Messenger, Rob Whitfield and Jamie Robinson came off to enable Tom Jones, Ashley Murdoch, Bobby Briers and Paul Brookes to have a run in readiness for the challenge of Haverfordwest this Sunday.

Tommy D'Ortez similarly replaced Paul Dalline, and all the replacements stood tall in the face of the Narberth onslaught.

Thanks to all parents for their support for both sides and to the faultless refereeing of Mr. Gethin Evans, a true stalwart and sportsman. Also to John Handicott for all his excellent work behind the scenes! All things considered, Tenby look in good shape to face Haverfordwest this weekend in what should be a massive test for the 'Seasiders!'

TENBY U15s 31pts.

CHOBHAM U15s 5

Last Sunday, Tenby U15s were delighted to entertain Chobham U15s, a touring team. The weather was kind, with bright sunshine, after overnight rain.

Tenby kicked off, immediately exerting forward pressure, which saw Chobham carry over their own line. From the resulting scrum, scrum-half Rhys Thomas picked up and powered over with four defenders on him, but unfortunately was unable to ground the ball.

However, constant pressure saw number eight Nick Drewitt pick up and make no mistake in powering over, with Steve Handicott converting to put his 7-0 up after five minutes.

Tenby's next score came from powerful flank forward Grant Rogers, who ripped the ball out from a maul and stormed through Chobham's defence, before racing 40 metres for a superb score, which went unconverted.

To Chobham's credit, they started to come back into the game, putting together some lovely back play, which resulted in the winger crossing in the corner to make the score 12-5.

Tenby knew they had to up their game, and were awarded a penalty on the visitors' 10 metre line, which they kicked to touch. From the resulting lineout, Nick Drewitt rose high to secure good ball and solid work from the pack saw them power 15 metres to the line, for Paul Woods to gather and touch down. Steve Handicott converted to make the score 19-5.

Tenby's fourth try of the half was a cracker, and was a real team effort. With their tails up, they kept Chobham on the back foot, with the forwards punching large holes in their defence and rucking and recycling superbly. Backs Lee Hope and Scott Kerrison made a break down the blind side where captain Nick Drewitt was on hand to receive the ball and race over for his second try to make the half-time score 24-5.

Chobham kicked off the second period, and came back into the game. It was now Tenby's turn to defend, which they did with great skill, keeping the visitors at bay.

Barry John, John Lewis, Gareth Merriman, Ben Field-Thomas and Richard Williams all put in sterling work, and so for the last 20 minutes it was all the home side. Drewitt and Rogers ruled the linesout, Marvin, Martin, Woodsie and Tuttle were superb in the loose, but mention must be made of Michael Coburn who at open-side had a massive game.

The last try of the morning went to the young Seasiders. A scrum on the Tenby 10-metre line saw scrum-half Rhys Thomas feed his outside-half Steve Handicott, who made a superb break, throwing four or five dummies and taking play into the visitors' half, before feeding centre John Fenwick, who took the ball at pace and ran in from 40 yards to score between the posts. Rhys Thomas added the conversion to make the final score of a very entertaining game 31-5.

The coaches would like to thank all who helped on the day, and Gethin Evans for refereeing the match. Special mention to outside-half Steve Handicott who Chobham presented with their players' man-of-the-match,. Well done Steve.
