Tenby Junior Community School has recently taken the first steps to become a Sustrans Bike It school.
Following three successful years of the Bike It project in Neath, Port Talbot, Conwy and Cardiff, the project has now expanded into Pembrokeshire.
They have been working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council road safety and transport strategy teams and as part of Haverfordwest's sustainable travel centre project.
Bike It is a national scheme, delivered by Sustrans (the UK's leading sustainable transport charity), which aims to increase the number of young people cycling to school.
During the first year, the project aims to work closely with Tenby Junior Community School supporting them to promote and demonstrate cycling as a safe, fun and popular activity.
Bike It officers work intensively with up to 12 schools every academic year, setting in place the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm necessary so that Bike It can continue long after the Bike It officer moves to other schools.
There is also lots of information about Bike It projects across the country which can be found on http://www.sustrans.org.uk/bikeit/">www.sustrans.org.uk/bikeit/.
Year 3 and year 5 children were asked to Bling their Helmet and Year 4 and 6 were asked to Bling their Bike!
The pupils made a tremendous effort and decorated with recycled materials with a festive theme. The children paraded around the hall for all to see!
Thank you to all the parents for their support and encouragement, as well as Sue Mathias for her judging and prizes.
The school will be taking part next term in a number of Bike it adventures, including the Tour De Tenby, watch this space!
