There was a jobs blow for Tenby this week with news that long established calendar business, Reeves Studio (Calendars) Ltd., is to cease manufacturing on its Knowling Mead site.

The calendar firm was set up in the Midlands in 1947 by brothers Lew, Geoff and Wallace Reeve and switched production to its factory in Tenby in 1969.

Last year, the firm appointed a new management team after then managing director Kim Reeve left to pursue 'other interests' .

Speaking to the Observer this week, the firm's deputy managing director, Mr. Michael Reeve, said that, contrary to rumour, the company had not ceased trading and had not gone bankrupt.

However, a change of direction by the firm meant that it no longer required its manufacturing facilities in Tenby and, as a result, had to make some 16 of its 20 strong workforce redundant.

"In a bid to create extra trade, we have decided on a change of direction," he explained. "We have decided on a shift of emphasis from advertising calendars to retail.

"Unfortunately, however, this means that, as everything will now be outsourced, we no longer require our manufacturing capabilities and there have been some 16 redundancies.

"The company has not gone bust and continues to trade as normal."
