Well done Tenby! 2006 was a year to celebrate. We won Best Small Country Town in the Wales in Bloom competition which was last won four years previously. "We were absolutely thrilled and it is a great credit to everyone involved; it really put the pride back in our town," said Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, Tenby in Bloom chairman. The criteria for Wales in Bloom is steep. It includes environmental issues, street cleanliness, landscaping, conservation, recycling and public awareness. These issues are vitally important to this year's Wales in Bloom bid. "The county council team, led by Rhodri Jenkins, have worked wonders and raised the standards of our public gardens, as well as several major environmental improvements," added Clr. Mrs. Lane. Tenby's Greenhill School has its own Environmental Club and as one of their projects have adopted Tenby railway station as part of Arriva Trains' adopt a station scheme. They have two hanging baskets outside the station and have organised a regular litter pick/clean-up at the station. Tenby Junior School also has its own nature classroom. They have spent years fund-raising for the building, with fantastic results. Continued Clr. Mrs. Lane: "Our Tenby in Bloom competitors are a real credit to the town. They work tirelessly year after year to provide us with spectacular results, then allow our judges into their cherished gardens. We really admire them - keep up the good work! "Finally, Tenby in Bloom has just applied for charity status and we hope to raise money to carry out our objectives of promotion, improvement and understanding of horticultural, environmental and floral issues for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public, and raise standards, awareness and interest throughout our schools. "We want our town to be a more beautiful place in every way for visitors and residents. "Who knows, Britain in Bloom next?" Clr. Mrs. Lane concluded. Judging for Tenby in Bloom takes place on Wednesday, July 11. The awards will be presented by the president of Tenby in Bloom, the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. John Griffiths, on Thursday, July 26, at 10.30 am, at Tenby House Hotel.
