At the final 2007 meeting of the Tenby Historical Society, Dr. Toby Driver, of The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, gave an absorbing talk on the archaeology of South Pembrokeshire from the air. This was illustrated by aerial photographs, both those in his book 'Pembrokeshire - Historic Landscapes from the Air' (published in 2007 by the Royal Commission) and more recent ones relevant to Tenby and its surroundings. Dr. Driver described the history and process of aerial archaeology before looking at a range of sites in different conditions showing how and when ancient features in the landscape reveal themselves. These included familiar features and new ones that have yet to be investigated by conventional archaeology. By contrast, the next meeting of the society will look at Medieval Warfare and the Knights Templar. The speaker, George Wright, will illustrate his talk with real hardware. This will be at 7.30 on Tuesday, January 8, at The Fourcroft Hotel; refreshments will be provided and visitors and new members are warmly welcomed.
