After over a year of being closed due to the Covid-19 lockdown, 4th Tenby Guides were delighted to get the chance to start meeting face-to-face again recently

The term began with welcoming, not only four new Guides, but a new leadership team as well, and the two new leaders, Rhian and Rachel, were delighted to welcome back their ow,n leader, Lt. Barbara Pegg to the first meeting, to hear them renew their promises and award them with their leader’s promise badges.

With many of the unit having now left and new members joining, the priority this term has been all about getting to know each other again after such a long break. The beautiful weather has meant that we have been lucky enough to hold many of our meetings on the beach, where the girls have worked together in their patrols, taking part in beach themed scavenger hunts, trying their hand at stone stacking, and producing some fantastic beach art.

Inspired by all the major sporting events taking place this summer, the Guides have also made team games a major part of the term, competing in their patrols at a variety of sports such as cricket, boules, rounders, and an adapted version of dodgeball.

The term culminated with a special meeting on Tenby South Beach, where this term’s Promise and Badge Ceremony was held. Five Guides - Abbie, Carys, Emelia, Lily and Polly - made their Guide Promises and were welcomed into the 4th Tenby Guides by the leaders and their peers. It was wonderful to be able to invite the ladies from Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild, the local adult branch of Girlguiding, and the families of the five girls along to support them at this important landmark in their Guiding journey.

After the girls had made their promises, it was a very great pleasure to welcome the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Tracey Evans, to present the whole unit with the badges and certificates they had earned during the term. These included their anniversary badges for the years spent in Girlguiding, the Girlguiding ‘Get Active’ badge for all the sport the girls had taken part in during the term, and a new appointment as Patrol Leader for Saffron.

Huge congratulations go to all the girls on their hard work and achievements this term, and a big thank you to Mrs. Evans for attending to present the awards.

The Guides now have a well-deserved break over the summer holidays and will restart in September. If anyone has a girl aged between 10 and 14 who is interested in joining, you can contact us via their Facebook page @4thTenbyGuides and one of the leaders will be in touch.
