A proposed enhancement scheme for one of the gateways into Tenby has been welcomed by the town council.

Plans for the proposed improvements to The Green were considered by councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The design for the area of open space beneath the viaduct between St. John's Hill and Greenhill Road is being carried out by Pembrokeshire County Council's landscape architect.

Main improvement features include creating a new access adjacent to the pelican crossing, replacing fencing with railings incorporating the wording 'Welcome- Croeso', improving seating for park users, tree and hedge planting and improvements to the footpaths.

Funding for the scheme will probably be a joint venture between Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

The project is programmed to start early in the New Year with completion before Easter. Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham welcomed the plans.

"It looks brilliant," she said.

Clr. Trevor Hallett commented: "It is very nice to see the county council taking an interest and I think we should give them all our support."

Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane added: "The plans are very nice and we should welcome it."
