Last Saturday's practice was well attended and with the 'Wee Wonders' competition coming up soon both groups were given the task of playing a par three hole on the practice ground.
With straight shots being the order of the day, a few of the first group struggled and will need more practice. The winning team in the first session, though, were Alex Heaven, Leighton Murcott, Jack Lewis and Sam Butler with an excellent score, amiably coached by assistant Gillian Roberts.
The same task was presented to the second group and calls of its easy were laughed off prior to them trying it. Putting the ball on the green from 125 yards was not quite as easy as they thought, and the winners were the 'dream team' of Rhys Lewis, Matthew Adams and Dan Worley.
Sunday gave all those entered into the 'Wee Wonders' competition a chance to have a practice competition on the course. With the tees shortened so that every hole was a par three, it gave everyone a feeling for how the competition will be played.
Winner on the day was Oliver Worley, with everyone putting in a good performance. A big thank you to Neil Webb, Peter Turton and Claudio for the support with the groups.
Last Saturday saw Tenby play a friendly match against Worlebury Golf Club from near Weston-super-Mare. Brought down by Steve Rowlands, a Tenby boy of old, both sets of boys acquitted themselves excellently and, despite the atrocious conditions, played some good golf.
With Tenby's boys giving on average a dozen shots to their opponents in the conditions, defeat was inevitable, although Dan Cope and David Schooling were smiling in the rain thanks to a 6 and 4 victory. The chance of a halved match disappeared with Worlebury captain Harry Rowlands sinking a 30-footer on the 18th against David Ayers and Sam Morgan.
Last week's report contained a hole-in-one by Richard Morton. Not to be outdone, Sam Morgan also achieved his first hole-in-one on the ninth hole last Monday whilst playing in the NatWest Cup. Spurred on, he proceded to birdie the 10th and just lost out on winning the cup on the back nine with a gross 80 nett 67 and a handicap reduction to 12.
Practice this Saturday is at the usual time of 9 am and 10 am. However, the course is closed on Sunday due to the playing of the Cobb Cup.
