There was no competition last Saturday, but it was a glorious day to play golf. It was dry, with a slight breeze, not too warm, and the course was in magnificent condition. Despite the absence of a Saturday competition, there is a lot going on.

The men's cup competitions are now, apart from the Allen Cup, at semi-final stage. Because of the large number of entrants, the Allen Cup is at the quarter-finals stage.

The next matches will be played between:

Scratch Cup: P. Haley v D, Cope; A. Joseph v J. Morris.

Charles Mathias Cup: A. J. Stroud v D. Forely; W. Beynon v. I. Thomas.

Veterans Cup: D. Evans v M. Nesbitt-Hawes; J. Hinchliffe v O. Monaghan.

Davies Cup: S. Davies v D. Lemon; P. Keating v R. N. Gwyther.

Presidents Cup: S. Morgan v M. Poole; B. Farrell v R. N. Gwyther.

Sellar Cup: R. James v R. Schooling; D. Thomas v D. Cope.

Reason Jones Cup: D. Douglas-Law and I. Thomas v S. Davies and S. Davies; D. Rossiter and N. Proctor v V. John and R. Howell.

Colwyn Williams Cup: M. Creese and P. Rossi v P. Heywood and G. McNeilly; J. J. Gillespie and B. T. Badham v M. Morris and S. Keating.

Allen Cup: I. Thomas v D. A. Cope; J. E. Stevenson v C. Cramb; J. Thomas v G. M. McNeilly; R. Schooling v S. Davies.

Well done to all those who have progressed so far in the cup competitions and best wishes to all those in the next round.

Next week, the ladies competition will be reported.

Best wishes are also due to five of our very talented seniors, B. Cramb, J. Dinsdale, J. Gottwaltz, G. Issacs and J. Whitcutt who are not only in the Welsh Senior team, but are also taking part in the British Senior Amateur Championships held this week at Blairgowrie, just north of Perth in Scotland. The competition is truly a major international event, with players from as far apart as South Africa, Australia, Europe and 60 from the USA taking part. It started on Wednesday and is due to finish today (Friday), with the competition being played on the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses.

I am sure there will be good news to report next week.

John Gottwaltz is the Dyfed Senior Scratch Champion for the second year running. He not only won on July 16 at Milford Haven, but he also came second in the net competition - very well done.

On Monday, August 4, the West Wales Golfers' Association Junior Championships were held at the club. There were 12 players, with ages ranging from 13 to 18.

The winner was our very talented Holly Watkins with an excellent gross score of 77. The best net was recorded by Rhian Thomas from Carmarthen with a net 73 and the visitors' prize was won by Rachel Hart, of Pyle and Kenfig.

Tuesday, August 5, was the day of the Tenby Seniors Open. There was a very full field of over 140 players. The competition started on time, but unfortunately it was necessary to cancel it as there was intense lightning on the course.

The first players were on the 17th hole when they were asked to return. The competition is rescheduled for September 2.
