Proposals to alter aspects of Tenby Golf Club’s grounds have been backed by local councillors.
In an application that came before members of Tenby Town Council at their recent meeting, the plans for the Golf Club [Reference: NP/25/0586/FUL) situated on Battery Road, which overlooks South Beach were discussed around the table.
The application seeks to: Change the layout of part of the existing car park; Provide an overflow parking area; Extend the terrace area to the south of golf club building.
After consideration, all councillors voted in favour of approval.
Tenby Civic Society [whose views will also be passed onto the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority] stated in their submission: “The terrace and revised car spaces are welcome. The new front of the building is impressive and relates well to the landscape of the main area of the course.
“But the removal screening trees from the proposed revisions to the rear car park means the mixed designs and bulk of the rear of the building will still be prominent in the views from the elevated Queens Parade and Battery Gardens area, in the Conservation Area.
“This lack of screening will contrast with the way trees screen Kiln Park, where their long term ‘master plan’ has integrated their site into the green landscape from these and other viewpoints.
“The other grass over-flow car park is used for only a few weeks a year; the grass has survived that and winter floods, being stable over many years.
“We note the difficulties encountered in the past with the stability of trees in the sandy ground, but there are trees along the road entrance and in the scrub on the dunes near by.
“The former, being close planted, have inter-locking roots to support each other, and the dune trees with their scrub have successfully established.”
