Much as we all enjoy playing golf at Tenby, it is always pleasant to visit other courses. The ladies' section is aware of this and we usually make two visits to other clubs each year. This year we had a very good time in April in Devon and on Monday we had a delightful day at Newport, Pembs.

Newport has always been a favourite venue for the ladies and since the refurbishment of the clubhouse it is even more enjoyable to visit. Some of us have been to Newport several times this year and each visit has been blessed with a fine, dry, calm, warm and sunny day, and Monday was no exception.

There were some 40 members, all of whom enjoyed their golf and the excellent cuisine provided throughout the day.

Sadly some stalwart members of the Autumn days out were missing this year and, in particular, we missed Beryl Oliver, who as captain, had made all the arrangements for the day, but had been forced to spend the day in hospital.

However, Joyce Gouldsbrough, vice-captain and Mary Rowell, club captain, officiated at the prize-giving after Mary Cherrington and Delysia Martin had given the handicap secretaries a well earned day off by checking all the cards.

The main prizes were provided by Giles Birt, whose late mother had instigated the away days many years ago, and the ladies are most grateful that he is continuing the practice of providing our prizes, begun by his father after his mother, Audrey, died.

The first prize was won by Senga Waddilove with 42 points and Ann Blackmore was second on 39. Other prizes were won by Ann Thomas-Ferrand, Ann Badham and Mary Williams.

It was very good to see Mary playing again after her enforced absence and we all wish her continued improvement in health and finally we wish the club captain, Mary Rowell, a very happy (if slightly ominous!) birthday today.
