The entry into last Saturday's November Monthly Medal was divided into three distinct groups.
The first group, the majority, took one look at the conditions from the comfort of their own homes and made a quick 'phone call to the club to cancel their tee-off times.
The second group were brave enough to venture out as far as the clubhouse before they too made that difficult decision to withdraw from the competition.
The third group, however, having made it to the golf club were determined that nothing would come between them and their weekly round of golf. Throughout the day these valiant individuals trickled onto the course, perhaps in the hope that conditions would improve to the point that they might actually enjoy themselves.
In fact, the conditions deteriorated as the day progressed; waterproof clothing was rendered useless as the rain continued unabated. The morning's heavy rainfall developed into driving rain accompanied by strong winds, and by the afternoon it became impossible to play.
Despite this severe downpour, the course remained playable, a testimony to the merits of links golf and the green-keeping staff of Tenby Golf Club.
In all 27 heroes took to the course to do battle against themselves and the elements, easily enough for the competition to be classed as a qualifying competition. How anyone could retain their concentration for four hours in these conditions to play golf is anyone's guess, yet some did.
Philip Goodridge, playing off 17, shot a very respectable nett 74, which was enough to win the medal and a turkey in time for Christmas - perhaps a duck would be more appropriate!
The runners-up purse of £15 went to Steven Court with a nett 76, while in third place, a further one shot behind, Martin Creese won a voucher for £5.
Richard Davies and Steven Lewis managed to score a '2', despite the conditions, each winning a voucher for £13.50. Steven also shared the bag draw with John Gillespie, winning £13 each.
