Saturday saw the first of the silverware events in the diary of the Mixed Foursomes at Tenby Golf Club, with the Brooks Cup competition. The competition was followed by meals provided by Linda and Jane in the club dinning room. With 16 pairs entered due to a few late withdrawals, the cup was played for in dry, but very blustery conditions. With the wind gusting by at least two to three clubs strength, it proved to be a very difficult day to score, as some of the results proved. The course remains in excellent condition, with the ball running well, particularly down wind, but playing into the wind was a very different position. There were many drivers used on the short par- three 12th hole, with the men playing off the white tees, and the ladies off normal nees; it proved to be very testing all day. There was a hiccup at the start, due to recent changes to the ladies' card for the new eighth hole and some changes to stroke index; it caused a little confusion, but was all sorted out at the end. In first place and winners of the Brooks Cup were Carol and Chris Beecher with a very creditable score of 32 points, considering the windy conditions, closely followed by Babs and Tony Morris. Hard on their heels were Pam and Steve Cole, winners from last month. With the revised course layout featuring only three short holes, 2s are proving to be difficult, as again only one was recorded, by Eiona and Geoff Aston at the sixth hole. The bag draw still proves to be the highlight of interest after return to the clubhouse. This was shared by Veronica and Jim Martin and Mary Lewis with Ken Gouldsborough - Mary making a habit of winning something, as she shared the twos pot last month. What's the saying, money goes to money! All winnings are recorded in the professional's shop. The club captain was on hand to present the cup, but the winners were unable to stay for the presentation. All who were present were glad we went out, as it certainly blew away any cobwebs which may have been present before tee-off. We have two entry sheets on the notice board which should be of interest; they are the first Friday friendly foursome on Friday, April 18, in which we draw for partners, followed as normal by a bar meal, with the tee reserved from 4 to 4.40 pm. Then, on Sunday, May 11, we have the annual match against Ashburnham, held up at Ashburnham (not as per the club fixture list). Tee- off is scheduled for 1 pm - we need names on both lists. G.W.A.
