Club report

Last Saturday, December 27, was the Christmas Spirits competition. It was held on a day of changeable weather, and it is unlikely that anyone escaped the rain.

Winner was R. Lewis with 38 points, second was D. Blackmore with 35, joint third were P. Brown, V. G. John, T. Rogers, N. S. C. Proctor and J. Taylor with 34, and in joint eighth place were S. Toy, R. E. Johns, G. McKeown, J. S. Rowell and H. G. Roberts with 33.

There were 57 competitors, of which 11 had twos. They were J. R. Bowen, P. Brown, P. K. Heywood, P. G. Holland, M. A. Morris, C. Murphy, R. J. Ormond, R. A. Parsons, N. S. C. Proctor (2), P. L. Rees and P. Rossi.

This week, the New Year's Eve Dinner Dance starts at 7.30 for 8 pm. The Chapman Foursomes scheduled for New Year's Day is cancelled due to lack of support. On Saturday , January 3, the competition is a yellow box medal, which should be fun.

Ladies' section

Most of us are now beginning to look forward to 2004 with longer days and less wet and chilly weather. However, there is the small matter of reporting the December competitions to complete.

Two Turkey Trots took place during the month and the spoils were shared between Ann Dassen and Heather Morgan. Others who returned good scores and may have acquired a wing or two were Julie Jenkins, Maureen Shepherd, Lindsey Moran, Pat Fox and Nesta Hart.

On the day of the annual dinner, two competitions were run. An 18-hole one for those who felt their appetites needed stimulating and this was won by Ann Dassen and Heather Morgan, no doubt anticipating Lyn's turkey as well as the ones they had won. The nine-hole competition for those whose taste buds were already tuned was won by Rona Griffiths, with Betty Charnock a close second.

The final competition of the year was the December LGU Medal and this was won by Julia Sweet with an excellent nett 71, a country mile ahead of Linzi Hawkey, Ann Blackmore and Toni Lucas.

May I now wish all members a very happy year in 2004 with good health and satisfying golf scores.
