TENBY U14s 4

NARBERTH U14s 2

Tenby Under 14s continue to head their league table, but this performance against a much-improved Narberth side lacked flair and commitment.

Goalkeeper Richard Thomas stopped Narberth going ahead three times in the first 15 minutes, when the Narberth forwards caught the Tenby defence napping.

These early shocks slowly woke the Tenby side up and Luke Dedman, after a series of corners, put Tenby 1-0 ahead after a Mikey Boswell shot was parried away by the Narberth 'keeper.

Boswell, himself, added Tenby's second after some sterling work on the left-hand side.

Narberth kept coming back and Tenby were lucky to go in 2-0 up at half-time, due to some frantic defending by Joe Scourfield and Jordan Lloyd.

The second-half was no different. Aaron Goldsmith and Adam Johns were quiet in midfield and were under constant pressure.

Tenby's defence was reshuffled and Brett Evans moved into central defence. Sam Christopher ran well, but was not 100 per cent fit after a week of illness. Gavin Kinsey and Guto Griffiths linked well on the left-hand side, with Griffiths providing plenty of good crosses. One such cross resulted in Boswell putting away Tenby's third.

Christopher's lovely fourth individual goal should have put Tenby safe, but Narberth had other ideas.

Fullback Scott Helmich started to push up, supporting Dedman and Narberth's very fast striker, Steve Williamson, exposed Tenby's errors on two occasions to put Narberth back into the game.

Kurt Walsh and Henry Boot came on to give Tenby fresh legs for the last 20 minutes and everyone was relieved when the final whistle went.

Three points to Tenby, but a better performance is needed for next week's match against Hakin.

Thanks to Neil for refereeing and Nick for running the line.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

UNDER 14s: Tenby U14s played a very exciting game against Pembroke Boro.

Tenby had plenty of the ball and Nikki Furlong scored a well-deserved goal. Victoria Brace made several spectacular saves and Lucy May and Lucia Fecci made some crunching tackles to stop Pembroke equalising.

Leila May and Sophie Rees also played well and helped the side hang on to their 1-0 lead until the final whistle.

Their next match was against Neyland. Again, Nikki scored early on in the match. Tenby seemed to be hanging on to the lead for most of the game, only to see Neyland snatch a very late equaliser to deny the side three points. Carly Brown played in this match.

Team: Nikki Furlong, Lucia Fecci (capt.), Sophie Rees, Lucy May, Leila May, Victoria Brace, Carly Brown.

UNDER 12s: Tenby Tornadoes met Tenby Jays in their first match this week. It was a very closely fought game, with Terri scoring first for the Tornadoes.

Sarah Paterson and Kirsty shared the defensive duties and both are improving with every game. Shelby Rossiter and Yasmin Woods put a lot of pressure on the Jays' defence of Natalie Johnson and Gracie Bevan.

Lowri Lewis made several good saves for the Tornadoes, before Rhianne Griffiths and Sophie Izzard put the Jays 3-1 ahead.

Hayley Lewis made a good debut for the Jays, with Ellen Thomas once again looking good in the Jays' goal and Elena Ciccotti running well.

Chloe Goldie and Roxanne Paxton battled strongly for the Tornadoes, but the Jays just proved to be a little bit stronger on the day.

In their next match, the Tornadoes met Goodwick B. This again was very close, with Chloe putting the Tornadoes ahead. They kept their lead for most of the match, only to see Goodwick B score seconds before the end of play.

The Tornadoes made several scoring chances, but the ball would just no go into the back of the net.

Tenby Jays also met Goodwick B in their second game. They won 3-0, with goals coming from Rhianne, Sophie and Elena.

Tornadoes: Yasmin Woods, Sarah Paterson, Chloe Goldie, Shelby Rossiter, Lowri Lewis (capt.), Roxanne Paxton, Terri, Kirsty.

Jays: Rhianne Griffiths (capt.), Sophie Izzard, Gracie Bevan, Ellen Thomas, Elena Ciccotti, Natalie Johnson, Hayley Lewis.

Thanks to the parents for providing transport - only two weeks to go!

TENBY U11s 2

ST. CLEARS U11s 4

This is only the second time in two seasons that this Tenby side have lost and they will have no complaints about the result. St. Clears just had the edge in a hard fought tussle, which could have gone either way and was only decided in the last 10 minutes.

To the independent spectator this was an excellent game of end-to-end football between two very good sides, with nothing separating them for the opening 15 minutes. Both teams did have several chances to open their respective accounts, however, perhaps the best fell to Jordan Richards, who just clipped the outside of the post.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Curtis Hurlow latched on to a loose ball and squeezed it inside the visitors' near upright.

St. Clears came out for the second period with all guns blazing and, although the home 'keeper, Jake Roberts, was in outstanding form and had kept Tenby in the game during the first-half, he was finally beaten with a good low shot.

The visitors were now in command and got a second goal following a slight deflection off a home defender.

Tenby, sponsored by Tenby Cycles and Skateboards, clawed their way back into the match, with Richards and Ashley Smith working tirelessly in the midfield. It was the latter who equalised for the Seasiders, when he unleashed a powerful shot into the top right-hand corner.

The Saints put Tenby under immense pressure following this goal and the red and blacks only survived thanks to some brilliant defending by Greg Lees-Griffiths, Matthew Davie and Roberts.

With the match heading for a draw, St. Clears had to thank the woodwork for coming to their rescue on two occasions. However, it was the visitors who finished the stronger and grabbed two goals in the last 10 minutes to seal an excellent victory.

Tenby side: J. Roberts, G. Lees-Griffiths, D. Edwards, M. Davie, P. Horsley, A. Smith, J. Richards, C. Hurlow, G. Warlow, B. Green.

TENBY U11s 15 pts. CRYMYCH U11s 15

The conditions were good for attacking rugby. New boy Michael produced some hard tackling and gained good ball for his backs. Phil played well by scoring Tenby's first try.

Crymych defended well, but Tenby were too strong for them in the first half.

The ball was flowing well through the backs, for Alex to go over Crymych's line for Tenby's second try.

Ieuan came on for Ross and ran well with ball in hand, while Leo came on for Cai to partner Ryan and Michael in the front row.

Crymych produced some good running, but couldn't break the Tenby defence of Curtis, Jimmy and Phil. Bulldog Fairlie was not at his best - get well soon - with the half-time score remaining two tries to one in Tenby's favour.

Crymych came back hard following a talking-to from one-time Wales and Neath player Kevin Phillips, to draw level at two tries apiece.

Jimmy and Daniel then made good ground from the maul for scrum-half Loui to score Tenby's third try.

Phil and Carwyn battled bravely to prevent Crymych from scoring, but they eventually broke through Tenby's defence for the game to end in a 15-15 all draw. Well done boys.

Man-of-the-match: Tenby fly-half Phil.

Team: Loui Fecci, Ross Edwards, Phillip Horsley, Curtis Hurlow, Carwyn Lawrence, Robert Fairlie, Alex Heesom, Ryan O'Neill, Leo Moreland, Cai Evans, Michael Wright, Daniel Robins, Ieuan Williams, James John.

Tenby Ladies 5 Neyland Ladies 3

Tenby Ladies football team, sponsored by the Famous Pound Shop, played a home return match against Neyland, with both teams able to field full teams.

Tenby settled into the game early and were able to score two goals in the first half from Nicola Aston and Annie Davies.

New Tenby team member, goalkeeper Ali Brace, had very little to do.

The second half resumed with Tenby in command and once again putting pressure on the away team, resulting in a Neyland own goal.

Tenby, now 3-0 up, lost their shape and concentration at the back and in midfield, giving away a goal, plus an own goal to the visitors.

Imelde Rossi was able to breakaway and score Tenby's fourth, only for Neyland to reply with their third.

The home team now regrouped and started playing some good football, allowing Denise Powell to surge forward to score their fifth, with Tenby winning the match 5-3.

The next match is away at Haverfordwest on Sunday at 2.30 pm.

Team: Denise Powell, Kaylie Davies, Carrie Slack, Imelde Rossi, Haylie Lowe, Lisa Jones, Ali Brace, Holly Watkins, Annie Davies, Nicola Aston.
