NARBERTH U12s 4 TENBY U12s 1 An early start for the Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored side, but the journey across country on a fabulous autumn morning seemed to bode well for a good match. With Toby spending a few days in Paris and Rhys sadly sidelined by the dry weather, we clambered (nimbly of course) through hedgerows to watch a match on a pitch which could surely only suit 'local' knowledge. Action from the first whistle and the sides enjoyed an equal amount of possession. It was evident from the outset, however, that Narberth were a tightly organised team who would compete for every ball. Adam came under quite a lot of pressure, but coped well. Some hard work from Dan saw him put the ball through to Nathan, who found the back of the net. D'Arcy then found plenty of space on the left and had several opportunities, including seeing a shot rattle off the upright. A 1-0 lead to the visitors at half-time, but not a comfortable one. The second half saw Narberth increase pressure on the Tenby goal area and Narberth were fortunate to see an own-goal level the score. Tenby heads dropped and Narberth grabbed their next opportunity, a deflected shot finding the back of Tenby's net. An increase of pace and a brilliant last quarter from their player wearing the number 15 shirt saw him ripping Tenby's defence apart and Narberth's third and fourth goals put the game beyond Tenby's reach. Our first loss this season, but one which we really shouldn't have too many complaints about. On the day, Narberth were the better organised team, who played together well, tackled fairly and made the most of their opportunities. They were hungry for the ball, had the best player on the pitch and deserved to win. As they say 'tomorrow is another day' - this means a league match against St. Clears followed by an away cup tie at Carew - two difficult games, but hopefully we have learned from this. Total commitment, team work and awareness of who is in space to receive the ball should return us to our winning ways. A well-deserved 'man of the match' in the dressing room for Corey, a supreme battler, and the usual thanks to coach Simon and his team, our sponsors and the supporters who enjoyed the sight of the 'uniformed' Narberth linesman! Great hospitality at the end of the game and good spirits throughout. Squad: Adam Conbeer, Scott Cowan, Corey Morris, Tom Grover, Sam Butler, George McBeth, Hugo Wellum, Elliot Goldsmith, Jack Murphy, D'Arcy Escott, Nathan Farmiloe, Cheyne Lloyd, Daniel Fairlie.
TENBY U10s B 1 ST. CLEARS 5
Conditions at the Clicketts ground couldn't have been better for this much anticipated home clash against an in-form St. Clears side. Tenby made one change to the side from the previous week bringing in Joseph Criddle into midfield - which in-turn provided them with a whole host of options as the game unfolded. Tenby displayed discipline and strength at the back with the dependable trio of Daniel Tiesing, Henrik Jaakola and Ryan Kent, proving to be more than an equal match to the St. Clears attack. It was Tenby's midfield who took the initiative with some great running from Luke Hartland on the right hand side - delivering a fine pass onto Dylan Price who then took the ball right down to the St. Clears by-line, cutting open the defence and delivering a pass across goal onto Sean Conbeer who coolly fired a left foot shot into the St. Clears net to give Tenby a well deserved 1-0 lead. St. Clears pushed forward looking to even the score but Tenby defended well with Ryan Kent calmly gathering the loose ball and clearing up to the Tenby midfield. St. Clears continued to push forward and Tenby were desperately unlucky when a miss-placed clearance just found its way past Will Davies and into their own net - allowing the visitors back into the game and bringing the score even at 1-1. St. Clears looked to take the advantage, but the Tenby defence was very well organised and more than equal to the oncoming attacks. Daniel Tiesing made an important interception to foil the visitors efforts and calmly passed onto Henrik Jaakola. On the occasions when St. Clears did break through it was Will Davies who was at hand to put in a series of outstanding saves to keep the score even at half- time. As the second half unfolded, Tenby were caught on the break as the score crept from 1-1 to 5-1 in the space of the opening five minutes. Some great running by Sean Conbeer and a solid midfield performance from Joseph Criddle gave Tenby a series of chances with Liam Bowen unlucky not to pull a goal back early on. Tenby's defence held strong with Joel Downs and Henrik Jaakola breaking down a series of St. Clears attacks and Will Davies put in a great save to thwart a fine long range effort. Tenby displayed some well organised attacking play with great running from Joel Downs. Daniel Tiesing provided a great pass out of defence, onto Sean Conbeer who weaved his way through the St. Clears midfield and just lost possession deep in the visitors half - forcing a throw-in. Luke Hartland collected the throw and delivered a great pass onto Dylan Price whose shot went just wide and hit the side netting. Tenby pushed forward again as Luke Hartland wins a throw in deep in the St. Clears half. Liam Bowen gathered the loose ball ,but was unlucky to see his shot just cleared by the visitors. Tenby's long spell of possession continued with St. Clears spending more time in their own half defending. Joseph Criddle battled well in midfield and continued to take the ball away from the visitors - playing a great pass onto Sean Conbeer who in-turn delivered a long through ball towards Dylan Price. The striker broke free from two defenders and was unlucky when his shot was just saved by the 'keeper in the last seconds of the game. Tenby were unlucky to concede the lead and not to convert their long spells of possession into goals, but they can take a lot of credit from a game where they showed great organisation, strength and determination. Many thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips, the Tenby Under 10s kit sponsors, and to all the parents for their positive support and encouragement.
TENBY U14s 21 NEYLAND U14s 0
The Willow Carpentry sponsored Tenby Under 14s advanced to the next round of the Pembrokeshire Cup with a huge win over their very young Neyland counterparts. Tenby raced to a nine-nil interval lead, with Will Thomas collecting six goals, Johnnie Delahunty and Greg Lees-Griffiths got one apiece and Tenby goalkeeper, Jake Roberts, scoring one from the penalty spot. Pay up Mike! The second half saw goals from Ashley Smith with five, Gareth Warlow grabbed four, and Jordan Richards, Thomas and Delahunty getting one each. TENBY U8s 1 HAKIN U8s 1
A tough challenge awaited the young Tenby side last Saturday. Hakin at home was always going to be a tough match and neither side disappointed. Throughout the game, each side constantly fought and tackled for the ball. Many Tenby players picked up injuries, Ben Palin coming off for five minutes after a hard tackle. Many chances were created by both Tenby and Hakin, but in the first half, the ball just wouldn't find the back of the net. The second half proved to be totally different. A great pass down the wing by Thomas Murphy to the boot of Toby Poole saw him score Tenby's only goal. The defence remained tight throughout the game, with Jack Broadhurst, Cai Elms and Tom Murphy putting in solid performances, while James, as ever, was great in goal. However, Hakin came back with a goal, levelling the score at one-apiece. A controversial handball by one of the Hakin players denied Toby Poole his second goal. Dan Wainwright, Toby Poole and Elliot Moorhouse fought hard as always, with extra help from Tom James and Alex Brace. Tenby had to come away with a draw from what was a well played game by all the players. A big thank you to Lewis Hurlow for refereeing the match, Matthew Broadhurst for being the ever- dedicated coach and all the parents for their support.
