MILFORD ATH. U16s 3 TENBY UNDER 16s 5
Tenby played up the slope in the first half and were soon a goal down to a hard-working Milford side. The home team were encouraged by this and competed well in the middle of the pitch, although Aaron Goldsmith soon got his side into attack with some well-directed passes. Tenby pressed on, needing the points for their championship push and most of their attacks were on the right where Sam Christopher looked dangerous from a good supply of passes from Scott Helmich. Crosses to Rob Colley and Mikey Boswell were stretching the home defence to the limit and the equaliser came from a penalty from Mikey Boswell. Tenby's satisfaction was shortlived when a lobbed goal put the home side back in front, although Kurt Walsh and Billy Vaughan made some excellent saving tackles to cover Brett Evans who was working hard to block the direct route to the Tenby goal. Intense pressure on the Milford goal from passes to the strikers from Aaron Goldsmith and Luke Dedman saw Tenby denied another penalty, before Adam Johns equalised with a strong cross-shot. Richard Thomas made a good save with his feet in a first half, which Tenby were glad to end at 2-2 with the prospect of playing down the slope still to come. The second half opened dramatically when Rob Colley fired a shot at the near post to put his side 3-2 ahead, and this brought a period of play where Billy Vaughan and Luke Dedman totally dominated the mid-field to give a good service to Adam Johns, whose many dangerous runs had the home defence at full stretch. Mikey Boswell was competing for every ball in the Milford penalty area, bringing some desperate tackles from the defenders and the home goalkeeper, who blocked several close range efforts. A long cross from the Tenby left by Luke Dedman was superbly headed in by Sam Christopher for the best goal of the game, and Tenby's passing became outstanding in a match, where there was not much space allowed by either team when they lost the ball. Tenby were soon in control at 5-2 when Rob Colley added his second in a crowded Milford goalmouth after long crosses from Sam Christopher and Scott Helmich on the Tenby right kept good width in the play. Billy Vaughan skilfully headed back to Richard Thomas to support Brett Evans who continues to do well in the air, and the Tenby goalkeeper made a good save with his feet, to relieve the danger when Milford made one last push to get back in the game. Milford scored a last and hotly disputed goal to make the final score 5-3 in a match where Tenby were made to work hard to get a deserved victory. Tenby: Richard Thomas, Scott Helmich, Billy Vaughan, Brett Evans, Kurt Walsh, Sam Christopher, Aaron Goldsmith, Luke Dedman, Adam Johns, Rob Colley, Mikey Boswell, Michael Halligan, Rhys Winter. Tenby Picnic Basket player of the match: Billy Vaughan. Thanks to Nick for running the line and to the travelling Tenby supporters.
CAREW U11s 1 TENBY U11s 3 The Londis at Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored team travelled to the picturesque Carew setting for the return leg of their league fixture on a chilly, overcast morning. With both sides having proved two weeks ago they were capable of exciting, open football, it was going to be a close fought match. Early Tenby pressure saw several shots just wide of the posts, but Carew drew first blood with an easy tap-in. Sustained Carew possession had the visitors on the back foot for a while until they settled down and took the game to Carew. Tenby's relentless pressure, with some excellent on-target passing, saw goal-poaching supremo David hit the back of the net once again and it was 1-1 at the half-time whistle. What would the second half bring? Tenby started with a dominance that was to sustain them to the end of the game. An own-goal, an unfortunate occurrence that nobody really enjoys, saw Tenby take the lead and capitalise on it with some superb football from all the players. It was only a matter of time before a moment of magic from Daniel on the right saw the ball float into the top of the net. The score was now 3-1 and with the game in the bag, Tenby continued to dominate and run out the eventual winners. Two thoroughly enjoyable games in as many weeks, we look forward to many more encounters with Carew. Thanks to Carew for their great pitch and hospitality (the egg sandwiches were apparently as good as mine!) and to the other usual suspects - Simon for his time, belief and encouragement; Neil for his support; the usual touchline gang and our sponsors. Seems the unofficial team mascot may have got carried away in the excitement and decimated one of the spare match balls, but that can be replaced. What can't are the memories of two games played in the best of spirits with some superb football. Well done to all of you! Squad: Adam Conbeer, Corey Morris, Sam Butler, Tom Grover, Toby Rossiter, Hugo Wellum, Nathan Farmiloe, Elliot Goldsmith, David Webb, Daniel Fairlie. HUNDLETON U9s 0 TENBY U9s A 3
On an overcast but otherwise dry morning in Hundleton, the Tenby boys were not deterred having gone down 3-0 at the hands of Clarbeston Road last week and were soon back to winning ways. From the off, Tenby immediately pushed forward forcing an early corner, which Declan Escott met with a perfectly timed run, heading just wide. Early nerves soon passed, with Tenby finding themselves more and more space, and a period of good flowing football saw the ball being played out wide to Scott Ferney on the right. The skilful young winger put in some good early crosses, putting further pressure on the Hundleton defence, with several attempts just going wide of the goal. Hundleton, to their credit, continued to battle hard and as the half progressed were able to build some attacks of their own, but were very rarely able to trouble Daniel Evans in the Tenby goal. The first goal eventually came about midway through the half when a loose ball was picked up by Dylan Rees deep in the Tenby half. Some good link- up play with fellow striker Declan Escott ended with a return ball to Dylan Rees, who coolly slid the ball past the Hundleton 'keeper from just inside the box. This opened up the way for some further good play from Tenby and their second goal came just several minutes later following some good individual play by Scott Ferney. Seeing the 'keeper off his line, the winger delicately lofted the ball over the his head to put the Seasiders two ahead. The first half ended pretty well as it began and further long range efforts from both Tom Dyson and Dylan Rees just went wide of the Hundleton goal. Hundleton's defending, however, continued to be resolute and just before the half-time whistle Kim Parmanad saw his effort kept off the line from the outstretched foot of a defender. The second half saw some changes for Tenby, with both Daniel Evans and Declan Escott having to retire early from the game. Again some early pressure from Tenby tested the Hundleton 'keeper, who pulled off a series of very good saves to deny Tenby an early third. As the half progressed, it was Hundleton who found themselves some space, putting pressure on the Tenby back line. A number of good strong runs resulted in a couple of forced corners, but unfortunately for them Hundleton were unable to capitalise on this period of good play. However, it was Tenby who again took control of the game, with Tom Dyson in the centre of midfield working tirelessly to launch further assaults on the Hundleton goal. Tenby's final goal came again from some good link-up play, this time between Dylan Price and Dylan Rees. A low shot from Dylan Rees rebounded off the Hundleton 'keeper and was quickly pounced on by Dylan Price, who slid the ball home. Hundleton continued to give everything they had right to the final whistle, but were never really able to break down the defensive duo of Owen Coombs and Spencer Williams, who again both put in sterling performances at the back to deny Hundleton any real clear cut chances on goal. Thanks to both sets of supporters and to Hundleton for a very entertaining morning of football. Thanks also to Park Road Fish and Chips, the under 9s kit sponsors.
