TENBY UNDER 9s A 0 PRENDERGAST VILLA UNDER 9s 0

Tenby Under 9 A team dropped their first league points of the season at Haverfordwest on Saturday, but managed to salvage a draw from a tricky game. On a small and soggy pitch, the Seasiders found it hard to find their usual rhtyhm against an industrious Prendergast Villa side, who jostled and harried for every ball. Denied time and space to string together passes, both sides struggled to create many clear chances. Under pressure from two Villa defenders, Declan Escott did beat the 'keeper with a low shot, but the ball clipped the outside of the post. At the other end, Prendergast fired just wide and Daniel Evans, in the Tenby goal, did well to hold a rising shot from 10 yards. As the first half progressed, Prendergast Villa swept forward in numbers and the Tenby midfield were forced to drop back and strengthen the defence, with Kim Parmanand and Tom Dyson kept very busy. This meant Tenby striker, Dylan Price, was isolated at times. And when the Seasiders did manage to clear their lines, it was too easy for Villa to pick up the ball in 'no man's land' and relaunch their attacks. Tenby faced a series of corners and were lucky not to concede in a congested goalmouth, but they showed good character to come back at Prendergast towards the end of the half. A long looping shot from Declan Escott wide on the right almost caught the Prendergast 'keeper off guard, while Scott Ferney hit the side netting and saw a strong shot across the face of goal palmed away. The introduction of Dylan Rees in the second half increased Tenby's fire power up front, and the striker was unlucky not to score after a good run and shot, which was pushed past the post by the Villa 'keeper. Declan Escott headed just over from the resulting corner, and a minute later showed good skill to wrong-foot two defenders, but his low shot was again well saved. Prendergast also had chances to win the game in the second half, and the talented Villa forwards tested the Tenby defence at times. Daniel Evans made several excellent saves for Tenby. And on the one occasion that he was beaten, Owen Coombs was in position to clear the ball off the goal line and onto the post. Spencer Williams also had an excellent game at left back and made vital tackles when Prendergast looked likely to break through on goal. In the last two minutes, Dylan Rees had a half- chance to snatch victory for Tenby, but the Villa 'keeper just managed to stop the ball going through his legs and crossing the goal line. However, it would have been harsh on either side to lose this game. And both teams deserved at least a point for the determination and skill they showed on a difficult playing surface. Thanks to Prendergast Villa for an excellent match played in great spirit (and for their kind hospitality after the game). Thanks also to Park Road Fish and Chip Shop, kit sponsors for the Tenby Under 9 squad.

PENNAR ROBINS U16s 3 TENBY U16s 4

Tenby won a superb match by taking their second half chances and having the tenacity to hold on to the lead, when Pennar fought back late in the game. The game was even in the early stages, and Tenby nearly took the lead when Boswell fired against Arthur's legs when faced with a one-on-one situation. Pennar made the most of this escape and broke away to score from a sweeping move down their left flank. The lead was shortlived, however, as when Tenby attacked down their right side, the ball finished in the net after Luke Dedman put in a dangerous cross. The half-time score of 1-1 seemed a proper reflection of the play in a match where both defences seemed vulnerable to the quick counter- attack, although Richard Thomas only had a couple of difficult saves to make in the Tenby goal. Tenby looked more positive in the second half, and the promptings of Billy Vaughan, backed up by the tenacity in midfield of Aaron Goldsmith, brought a quick reward when Sam Christopher burst through the middle and netted under heavy pressure to put his side 2-1 ahead. Pennar struck back quickly, and the Tenby defence, in which Brett Evans, Scott Helmich and Kurt Walsh had seemed generally in control, was beaten for the equaliser. Considering Tenby's possession of the ball and the dangerous runs down both wings by Sam Christopher and Adam Johns, the scoreline of 2-2 flattered Pennar, but goals win matches. Firstly, Mikey Boswell burst through the middle, shaking off two markers who had shadowed him for all the game, to fire in past Arthurs, to make the score 3-2, and then Billy Vaughan came forward to score, and add to his already impressive defensive performance to make the score 4-2. Pennar fought back strongly yet again and Richard Thomas did well to gather a low shot when surrounded by a crowd of Pennar forwards. Josh Bevan came on to replace the hardworking Rob Colley, and he made an immediate impact in midfield, although Pennar reduced the lead once again with 10 minutes remaining. Tenby put a lot of pressure on the home defence, and a breakaway from Mikey Boswell resulted in his shot being brilliantly pushed over the bar, by Arthurs in the Pennar goal, to keep the score at 4-3 to the visitors. Adam Johns's speed seemed to worry the Pennar defence when chasing good passes from Kurt Walsh, and when Billy Vaughan came wide to control the situation in the final minutes, Tenby held on to their deserved lead to see the match end at 4-3. Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Scott Helmich, Brett Evans, Billy Vaughan, Kurt Walsh, Sam Christopher, Aaron Goldsmith, Luke Dedman, Adam Johns, Rob Colley, Mikey Boswell, Josh Bevan, James Howells, Michael Halligan. Tenby Picnic Basket player of the match: Sam Christopher. Thanks to Nick for running the line.

TENBY U11s 2 HAKIN U11s 1 The Londis at Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored side welcomed Hakin to a muddy Clicketts on a sunny, but chilly morning, for the home leg of their league fixture. With several regulars laid low by a tummy bug, it was going to be a close game against the strong visiting side, but entertainment was the order of the day. Both sides settled quickly and adapted well to the slippery surface and ball. End to end action, ensued with the players digging deep and producing some great football. The Tenby defence of Adam in goal with Corey, Sam and Tom had their work cut out as a skilful Hakin shared possession with the home side. An early breakthrough when Nathan found David for him to score the opener gave the home side a slight advantage going into the second half. Playing well together, Tenby's lead was, however, wiped out by a brilliant lob from Hakin to equalise early in the half. But the boys surpassed themselves and, heads high, managed to score the winner towards the end, again Nathan finding David, who calmly slotted the ball home. A solid team performance from Tenby. Adam in goal didn't give mum too many heart-stopping moments; Corey, Sam and Tom all had immense games; Hugo provided his usual deft, powerful touches; Nathan popped up all over and seemed to relish the muddy conditions; David was there when it mattered; Elliot, with determination etched on his face, gave his all and Cheyne, who came on as substitute, showed grit, determination and skill. Honours even with Hakin this season; this was a performance that brought a smile to Simon's face and quite rightly so. A friendly match, both on the pitch and the touchline, both teams did their coaches, parents and supporters proud and everyone looks forward to future matches between these two teams. Well done to you all for providing a great morning's entertainment. Thanks to Simon (hope your golf was as good as the boys' football), ref Colin, who had a good game, the supporters, the kit laundress - it was a muddy one, and visitors Hakin! Roll on more games played in such a competitive, yet amicable, way. Squad: Adam Conbeer, Corey Morris, Sam Butler, Tom Grover, Hugo Wellum, David Webb, Elliot Goldsmith, Nathan Farmiloe, Cheyne Lloyd.

TENBY AFC U9s (B) 3 MONKTON SWIFTS U9s 3

It was a perfect day for football, sunny and dry. Monkton, one of the best teams in the division, had probably arrived expecting an easy win, considering that on the first day of the season they won the encounter 4-0. However, an end to end start to this match showed that Tenby were giving as good as they got. In fact, with Daniel Tiesing, Tom Harries and Chris Hinman letting nothing get past them at the back and Will Davies banging long goal kicks up the pitch, it came as no surprise when a through ball by Henrik Jaakola was latched onto by Sean Conbeer. His first-time shot was saved, but the rebound was hammered into the net by Adam Muskett. Tenby didn't rest on their laurels and some fine play in midfield by Lois Horsley and Joel Downes sent Sean Conbeer free. He cut past the last Monkton defender before firing past the 'keeper to make it 2-0. Monkton seemed to be in shock and as a result woke up to the fact that they had a match on their hands. They started to throw more players into attack and won a corner. As the ball came in from the right, one of the Tenby players hacked it away. Unfortunately, it hit a Monkton player and rolled into the Tenby goal. Once again from the re-start Tenby built up attacks and as a long ball was played up into Monkton's half, Adam Muskett beat one, two and three players, before letting loose a shot that rose into the top of the net. So 3-1 at half-time and a well- earned drink for all the players. The second half was just as well contested as the first. Monkton pressed forward and what can only be described as a sky shot by one of their forwards dropped under the Tenby bar to take the score to 3-2. However lucky this might have been, it gave Monkton a great lift and they attacked relentlessly. Tenby had to rely on counter-attacks and Luke Hartland, who had come on at half-time to replace Lois Horsley, helped these with his great control and pace. Two or three times he combined with Joel Downes to send Henrik Jaakola or Adam Muskett running in on the Monkton goal, looking for the score that would have put the game beyond Monkton's reach. Unfortunately, with only minutes to go, Monkton launched what proved to be a very useful attack. Their winger drew Daniel Tiesing before running down towards the corner flag; he then drove in a hard low cross. Tom Harries tried to cut it out and Will Davies, the Tenby 'keeper, had come to meet it. The ball rebounded and ended up in the Tenby goal. So 3-3 it ended, but what a great game. All the spectators thoroughly enjoyed the match and applauded both teams off the pitch. Many thanks to Andrew Muskett for help with the goals and to Peter Horsley, the match referee.

TENBY U8s 3 CAMROSE U8s 0

The Andrew Price sponsored U8s played their last home game of the season and finished off with a well deserved 3-0 win over Camrose. Natty John returned to play in goal and with Harry Goforth and Ben Howells in defence, Tenby looked very strong indeed. Mally Paxton, Daniel Davies and Billy Truman were the midfield trio, leaving George Taylor and Adam Davidson up front. Frazer Finlay started on the bench, but was soon to make his pace show against a strong looking Camrose defence. The game started with Billy and George testing the Camrose 'keeper with a few early shots, but it was Daniel's shot which was saved, resulting in a corner for the home side. Billy whipped in an excellent cross, which beat everybody, including the 'keeper, and flew into the net to make it 1-0. Camrose were now defending deep and the midfield looked very congested, so on came Frazer for Mally and Frazer was straightaway running at the defence up the left touchline and his cross this time was collected by the Camrose 'keeper. The half ended with Tenby having all the play, but only one goal up. The second half was much the same as the first, with Tenby pushing forward in numbers and Ben and Harry both getting well forward. The second goal came from hard work from Adam, who was as busy as ever. His pass led to George crossing from the right to see Daniel sweep the ball into the back of the net - a great team goal and well deserved. Camrose showed they, too, could be dangerous as they pushed forward and Natty had to think quickly as he raced out of his box to deny the oncoming Camrose attacker with a save using his knees! Minutes later, Tenby were on the attack and another goal for George, as he sent his tally for the season to eight with another trademark shot which gave the 'keeper no chance, 3-0. Camrose rallied for one last effort and had a few good shots late on, but had little reward as the Tenby defence held tight to the final whistle. A good all-round performance and it was great to see a good team spirit, with boys on the sidelines cheering on the team and plenty of parents there too. So once again 'thank you' everyone for your support. And a final 'thank you' to Tatty 'Collina' Truman for being referee. Team: Natty John, Harry Goforth, Ben Howells, Billy Truman, Daniel Davies, George Taylor, Adam Davidson, Frazer Finlay, Mally Paxton.

LETTERSTON U13s 0 TENBY U13s 15

The Tenby Cycles and Skateboards sponsored Tenby Under 13s completed the expected double over bottom club Letterston. Although, a rout, the home side never gave up and have pledged to see the season out. The Seasiders got their first goal in the third minute, through Ashley Smith and continued to score at regular intervals during the opening period. Smith went on to collect five, while Jordan Richards hit the back of the net three times. Curtis Hurlow got the ninth goal after being put through by Greg Lees-Griffiths. Resting some of their regulars, Tenby fielded a number of fringe players. Leo Moreland, Chris Millward, Rob Fairlie and Dan Farmiloe all played extremely well, especially Farmiloe, who slotted in the unaccustomed position of right back, for a striker. If the first half saw the Seasiders playing good passing football, the second was in complete contrast. As indeed happens in matches like this, the game plan went out the window and the formation went ragged. However, Tenby still produced six more goals to bring their final tally to 15. Richards grabbed his second hat-trick of the game and Lees-Griffiths, Gareth Warlow and Chris Millward completed the scoring. Millward's goal brought the loudest cheer of the day following a tenacious display on the right wing. Warlow's strike was a milestone for Tenby this season - it was their 100th goal of the campaign. Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Tenby face a sterner test, when they meet St. Clears in the second round of the Cup at the Clicketts. Tenby side: J. Roberts, D. Farmiloe, G. Lees- Griffiths, P. Elliott, R. Fairlie, C. Millward, C. Hurlow, A. Roberts, A. Smith, J. Richards, L. Moreland, G. Warlow, A. Heesom, D. Edwards.
