TENBY 1st XI 2 KILGETTY 1

Tenby FC seniors entertained newly-promoted local side Kilgetty in a First Division clash on Saturday afternoon. The new management team partnership of Tenby stalwarts Peter Thomas and Jammy James are hoping to improve on last season's position in the league. The game started with no quarter being asked or given by both sides. However, with the teams playing some neat passing football, it was Tenby who struck first. A free-kick was awarded to the home side, 25 yards out, and captain Phil Catlin powered the ball into the top corner of the visitors' net, giving the 'keeper no chance. This enabled Tenby to take a lead into the second-half, an advantage they were not going to surrender easily. Their solid defence of Steve Hanlon, Ben Brooks, David Day and the influential Catlin kept the Kilgetty attacks at long range, with new custodian Steve Escott dealing with any efforts that got through. The midfield of Jimmy Thomas and the robust Sam Edwards edged the battle in the middle of the park against the experienced Dean Rossiter, with Thomas making a number probing runs along with Luke Askew and young Perry Broadhurst on the flanks. The forward line of Liam Robson plus the evergreen Gavin Scotcher, who replaced the injured Jack Christopher in the first-half, tried to give Tenby the cushion of a second goal, but midway through the half, it was Kilgetty who levelled the scores. Still the home side pushed forward and they were eventually rewarded when a ball played into the heart of the visitors' goalmouth resulted in a mix-up in defence and Robson was on hand to stab the ball home to give Tenby a 2-1 lead, which they held to the final whistle. The victory, which they fought hard to gain, was their third of the season, having beaten Pennar Robins and Camrose in their previous two matches, giving the Seasiders an unbeaten start to the new campaign. Tomorrow (Saturday) they are away to Carew in another derby game, with Tenby hoping for the same result to carry on this impressive start to league. The verdict from Thomas and James was that with the spirit and attitude the side is showing this year, teams will have to battle hard to beat them. "We're trying to bring back the pride of wearing the red and black of Tenby," they said.

Tenby went quickly into attack against last season's closest rivals, and were soon ahead when Guto Griffiths fired in from Luke Dedman's free-kick. This signalled an early charge for goals as Mike Boswell soon made it 2-0 and Sam Christopher put away an incredible lob from a scissors kick for a third. The next 20 minutes were just as hectic, even though Hakin managed to put together some attacks, during which Richard Thomas saved well once, but their improvement could not prevent Mike Boswell completing an incredible hat-trick before half-time. Although always well ahead, Tenby gave no chance to their opponents, with Adam John and Aaron Goldsmith tackling ferociously in midfield to keep possession after Hakin came up against a resolute back four of Brett Evans, Henry Boot, Kurt Walsh and Luke Dedman. Although not having much of the ball, Guto Griffiths was impressive on the left for Tenby and helped stretch the Hakin defence which left their goalkeeper completely exposed making the game look a very one-sided affair. Coming out for the second-half leading 6-0 against one of last year's successful sides was a strange feeling for Tenby, but they resisted the temptation to ease up, although Hakin improved somewhat as the game progressed, but they never found the answer to Tenby's all-round work-rate and accurate finishing. Mikey Boswell and another scorcher from Sam Christopher added to the lead, as the game progressed to the point when Hakin could not possibly come back, and even two goals from the visitors looked completed irrelevant against the commitment of the Tenby team. Two more goals from Boswell made the score 10-2 and as Joe Scourfield and Michael Halligan entered the match in the late stages a rebound off Robert Colley, who made an excellent debut partnering Boswell in central attack, brought the score to 11-2. As if Tenby had not done enough to show that they mean business in this age group this season, Boswell scored his eighth of the match, completing the scoring to make the final result 12-2 and allow his team to finish in style. Tenby team: Richard Thomas, Brett Evans, Luke Dedman, Henry Boot, Kurt Walsh, Sam Christopher, Adam Johns, Aaron Goldsmith, Guto Griffiths, Mikey Boswell, Robert Colley, Joe Scourfield, Michael Halligan. Tenby man-of-the-match: Sam Christopher. Thanks to Ryan Lawrence for refereeing and to Nick for running the line.

After a successful summer, Tenby United got off to a flying start in the Pembrokeshire Under Eights League. Having won the Whitland tournament and reached the semi-finals in St. Clears, Tenby's experience soon showed in their first league match against a newly-formed Milford United team. Two goals each from Scott Ferney, Spencer Williams and Charlie Flockton put Tenby in control of the game. And Tom Dyson added a seventh before half-time. The visitors from Milford played valiantly and attacked on the break. But Tenby's Tom Harries and Owen Coombs kept their shape at the back and let nothing past. In the second-half, Tenby 'keeper, Jannik Coop, swapped shirts and joined the attack. Milford continued to battle hard and kept Tenby at bay for several minutes. But, after a goalmouth scramble, Tom Dyson added an eighth for the home side, and Tom Harries quickly made it nine. Milford's counter-attacks continued to be stifled by Owen Coombs in his role as sweeper, and five minutes from time the floodgates opened. Scott Ferney made several excellent runs down the right flank. Tom Dyson latched onto a loose ball and blasted in goal number 10 to score his hat-trick, and then added a fourth. Before the final whistle, Spencer Williams and Charlie Flockton also completed their hat-tricks, making the score 13-0 to Tenby. Well done lads! Praise must also go to Milford who played with great spirit in their first ever competitive game. Thanks to Park Road Fish and Chips for sponsoring the Under Eights' new kit, and managers Alan Harries and John Dyson who are taking the team from strength to strength. With a squad to rival Chelsea, the Tenby Under Eights will be rotating their players throughout the season, and will field seven more team members for next week's tough away match against Pennar Robins.

JOHNSTON UNDER 12s 6 TENBY UNDER 12s 6

The Tenby Cycle and Skateboard sponsored Tenby Under 11s faced a new season with some drastic changes. Gone are the small pitches and goals and in their place comes a vast expanse of grassland, huge goalposts, and a thing called 'offside', that even the most seasoned campaigner still can't come to grips with. A slight drizzle greeted the players at the start of the game, which made the surface very greasy and kept ball control to a minimum. Johnston adapted to these conditions and the larger pitch the quicker, playing very good football. Within 20 minutes they found themselves three goals up. The first was from a puzzling infringement inside the six-yard area and the second and third from good shots following neat approach play. All these efforts gave the new diminutive Tenby goalie, Jake Roberts, no chance of saving. The visitors pulled a goal back when Phil Horsley's long pass sent speedy Gareth Warlow en route to goal and he placed his low shot wide of the home 'keeper. The red and black defence of Loui Fecci, Rob Fairlie, Alex Heesom and captain Daniel Edwards began to work as a unit and this provided the platform to set their forwards into action. Jordan Richards almost doubled Tenby's score when he headed just over from a Curtis Hurlow corner and then saw a good shot go just wide. He soon added his name to the scoresheet, however, when Josh Koop's shot was parried into the path of Richards to side-foot home. Tenby then conceded an unfortunate headed own goal from a corner, but Richards raced upfield from the restart to cut the deficit to a single goal at the interval. Warlow levelled the score at the beginning of the second-half with an almost identical goal to which he scored in the first-half. However, Johnston caught the Tenby defence a little flat-footed and nudged into the lead again. Back came the visitors, with Richards netting his hat-trick after good play from Koop and Oliver Worley, who had come on and replaced Fairlie. Tenby introduced fresh legs, Leo Moreland settled quickly into defence, while the elusive Iwan Osborne partnered Warlow up front. Once more the home side took the lead, this time from a speculative long range shot which took a slight deflection past Roberts. Again Tenby drew level, this time from the hard-working Ashley Smith, who found the net at the second attempt. With time running out, Warlow thought he had scored the winner, but not for the first time during the match, Tenby were penalised for having a player offside, but not actually interfering with play. Tenby fielded: J. Roberts, A. Heesom, R. Fairlie, D. Edwards, L. Fecci, A. Smith, P. Horsley, J. Richards, C. Hurlow, J. Koop, G. Warlow, L. Moreland, I. Osborne, O. Worley.
