Tenby's enforced lay-off since the League Cup Final did not affect the players too much, and after a cautious start they soon got into their stride against a keen Milford side.

Tenby's strength in the centre of the defence, where Joe Scourfield and Jordan Lloyd gave outstanding cover to those around them, and the twin attackers Mikey Boswell and Sam Christopher took most of the chances on offer, made for an outstanding team performance.

This solid platform of central players gave Adam Johns and Aaron Goldsmith the confidence to battle for every ball in the midfield, resulting in wide players Luke Deadman and Gavin Kinsey having the space to deliver dangerous passes behind the Milford defence, for Sam Christopher and Mikey Boswell to run eagerly onto.

As the game opened up, the Milford defence got overworked in dealing with the through passes and Mikey Boswell made no mistake taking his chances in the first 25 minutes to put Tenby 3-0 ahead.

Milford responded with some good attacks down the wings, but Brett Evans and Scott Helmich got back quickly to protect Richard Thomas in the Tenby goal, when he came out bravely on a couple of occasions.

Tenby emphasised their dangerous finishing power in the 30th minute when Luke Dedman placed a 30-yard free-kick just under the Milford crossbar to put his side 4-0 ahead in 'true Beckham style'.

Tenby began to run wild after this, and the ever-eager Sam Christopher put his team 5-0 in front with a well taken goal just before half-time.

In the second-half, Guto Griffiths replaced the hard working Scott Helmich and a positional change saw Luke Dedman drop back to operate deeper on the right, for what looked a formidable system of play.

Guto Griffiths saw plenty of the ball when well supplied by Gavin Kinsey on the left, and his dangerous crosses placed the Milford defence in disarray, as they tried to cope with Mikey Boswell and Sam Christopher who were both a constant threat in the penalty area.

Tenby's solid teamwork prevented them making the same mistakes playing up the slope, as in some previous games, and their pressure was rewarded when Sam Christopher equalled his striking partner's performance on the day with a well-taken second-half hat-trick as Tenby cruised ahead to an 8-0 win.

The all-round strength of the Tenby squad was demonstrated when Michael Halligan and Richard Jones replaced the two main goal-scorers for the last 10 minutes of a match where everyone had put in an energetic performance.

This performance keeps Tenby on track for championship honours as they face the two remaining matches against Pennar Robins and Clarbeston Road, with all three teams having a chance to take top spot.

Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Joe Sourfield, Jordan Lloyd, Brett Evans, Scott Helmich, Aaron Goldsmith (capt.), Adam Johns, Gavin Kinsey, Luke Dedman, Sam Christopher, Mikey Boswell, Richard Jones, Guto Griffiths, Michael Halligan.

Thanks to Dewi for refereeing a good match.

TENBY U16s 9 FISHGUARD U16s 0

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Tees-R-Us, completed their home fixtures for the season with a comfortable win over Fishguard.

The scoreline could quite easily have finished in double figures for the Seasiders, but they were guilty of missing too many easy chances.

It took them a full 30 minutes to open their account when Liam Robson was on hand to tap in from six yards after good work on the right by Jack Christopher.

Robson went on to claim a first-half hat-trick, his seventh of the campaign, while the other goals came from an excellent David Otton header and a clinical finish, after an individual run, from Lloyd Wilson.

The second half saw Jac Worley enter the affray, at the expense of skipper Darren Taylor, and almost got himself on the score sheet, but just failed with an attempted volley.

The hard-working Christopher found the back of the net twice, while Robson grabbed another two to finish with a total of five goals.

Thanks to referee Alan Syknes and to Hillings of Tenby for sponsoring the match ball.

Tenby squad: L. Hurlow, S. Jenkins, D. Taylor, B. Field-Thomas, M. Sofan, P. Broadhurst, L. Wilson, D. Otton, M. Birch, J. Christopher, L. Robson, J. Worley.

JOHNSTON U16s 2

TENBY U16s 4

Tenby travelled to Johnston last Saturday knowing that a win would probably see them finish no lower than fourth position in the league.

The Tees-R-Us sponsored Seasiders did enough to win this match without really breaking into a sweat - although things were tight during the last 30 minutes, when they were reduced to 10 men when Jack Christopher left the field with a mouth injury, after Tenby had already used up all their substitutes.

It was the home side who nearly scored first when a good movement down the right finished with a shot past the post. Tenby recovered and took the lead when that man Liam Robson was again in the right place, at the right time, to fire home.

That goal came after Jack Christopher was denied two excellent chances - the first a half volley from a Mo Sofan cross was well saved by the Johnston 'keeper and the second struck the post.

The home side equalised when a free-kick was misjudged by the usually safe Hurlow in the Tenby goal. However, Christopher had reason to celebrate minutes later when he spectacularly scored with an overhead kick.

By the time the second half kicked off the wind had increased and the rain became more persistent, causing the playing surface to become very greasy.

The game deteriorated slightly, but not before Robson had completed yet another hat-trick, the last goal a delightful right-footed chip over a defender and finished with a left-footed volley.

Johnston scored at the death, but by then the points were already secured by the visitors.
