HAVERFORDWEST LADIES 5
TENBY LADIES 0
Tenby Ladies lost their unbeaten record away to Haverfordwest who fielded a very strong side.
Tenby's task was made more difficult by having to play with 10 players, but their combined efforts kept the score to reasonable limits even though Haverfordwest's wingers, Marie Davies and Jody Cato, looked menacing with their speedy runs at the visiting defence.
After the home team went 1-0 ahead after 10 minutes, Denise Powell made some fine saves in the Tenby goal. When assisted by Carrie Slack, who was keeping possession well in midfield, Nicola Aston looked in good form on the Tenby right, sending in some dangerous crosses, and being prepared to take on two or three defenders on her own to get into the home penalty area.
Despite Haverfordwest's superiority in building up a 3-0 lead by half-time, Tenby did well in defence, with Imelde Rossi and Louise Turberfield making some last-ditch tackles to help out the busy Denise Powell.
Tenby's second-half started badly when a low shot entered the net, but the team showed some character in fighting back, with runs by Hazel Sawyer and Michaela Bevan, who was looking particular dangerous, looking likely to produce some sort of consolation goal.
Haverfordwest made several substitutions and Tenby switched Denise Powell with Louise Turberfield in one last attempt to get a goal, but Tenby fell further behind when Laura Roberts headed in from a corner to put the home side 5-0 up.
Kayleigh Davies ran tirelessly at the front for Tenby in a match that they will want to forget.
Tenby team: Denise Powell, Louise Turberfield, Carrie Slack, Imelde Rossi, Hazel Sawyer, Nicola Aston, Jackie Cadogan, Louise Cooper, Michaela Bevan, Kayleigh Davies.
MERLINS BRIDGE 1 TENBY UNDER 12s 4
A windswept and rainy Merlins Bridge, played host last Saturday, in the first round of the Pembrokeshire Under 12s football cup.
The last time these two teams met, the conditions were near perfect and the Tenby team recorded a 3-2 victory.
Tenby, who are sponsored by Tenby Taxis, started the first half playing into a heavy wind and driving rain. The loyal band of supporters watched in horror, as Merlins Bridges scored in the first two minutes.
Tenby came out fighting and the crowd were treated with some entertaining football from both sides. Team captain Kiefer Thompson led by example and worked doggedly to secure possession.
The back four of Thomas Nash, James Howes, Matthew Davies and Will Hughes, worked as a cohesive unit and well, under the direction of Will, who was to have his best game of the season.
Goalkeeper Richard Bridges showed a safe pair of hands in atrocious conditions.
The equaliser for Tenby came as a result of some excellent running from the effervescent Chris 'Billy Whizz' Heesom, who coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Tenby unfortunately lost the services of Rhys Winter, after about 10 minutes of the first half. Rhys had made some lovely probing runs, down the left, before being replaced by Ben Edwards.
In the second half, with the wind and rain behind them, Tenby started to dominate the game. Ben Edwards had some exciting breaks down the left and one of his crosses was to create the second goal, via the outstretched knee of the mesmeric Toby Smith.
Tenby were then to lose the livewire Tom Harland with a muscle strain. Tom was replaced by James Criddle, who used his pace to good effect, to disrupt the bridge defence.
James Maxwell was also replaced by Johnny Lammin, who when called upon, held the ball up well and provided an extra dimension in attack.
Chris Heesom was to add his second and Tenby's third goal, when he was put into space by a perfectly weighted kick from Nasher.
James Criddle scored Tenby's fourth just before full-time, following some good interplay by the midfield.
Tenby fielded, Richard Bridges, Thomas Nash, William Hughes, Matthew Davies, James Howes, Toby Smith, Keifer Thompson (capt), Rhys Winter, Chris Heesom, James Maxwell, Tom Harland, Ben Edwards, James Criddle, Johnny Lammin.
Special thanks go to coaches Mark Winters and Huw Bridges and linesman John Lammin, who was deputising for the injured Brinley Hughes, who recently fractured an eyelash in a farming accident!
