ST. CLEARS U16s 2

TENBY U16s 5

St. Clears was the venue for this week's Tees-R-Us sponsored Tenby Under 16s match, which again was played in ideal conditions, with Tenby returning home with an excellent win.

The visitors started the brighter and were rewarded after 15 minutes when a cross from Ben Quatermaine found Bruce Tasker at the far post and the tall midfielder made no mistake. Liam Robson doubled the Seasiders' score when he and fellow striker, Jack Christopher, worked a well-rehearsed one-two, and Christopher got the visitors' third when Tasker's cross picked him, again, at the far post.

Mo Sofan, Sonny Phillips, Ben Field-Thomas and the outstanding Darren Taylor were solid in defence, but they were eventually breached when a long ball eluded them and Colin Reynolds beat the advancing Hurlow, in the away goal, to score.

The second half saw the visitors continue to press, with Christopher providing the perfect pass to Robson, who rifled the ball left-footed into the net, and then Christopher, himself, got on to a Tasker corner to claim Tenby's fifth.

St. Clears' never-say-die attitude was evident during the last 15 minutes when they mounted several good attacks. Hurlow denied them with one fine save, while Phillips cleared the danger on another occasion, but eventually they failed to prevent a Reynolds cross finding Jason Baxter to fire home from close range for the final action of the game.

Tenby team: L. Hurlow, M. Sofan, B. Field-Thomas, D. Taylor, S. Phillips, B. Tasker, L. Wilson, M. Birch, B. Quartermaine, L. Robson, J. Christopher, J. Worley, P. Broadhurst.

MERLINS BRIDGE U14s 4

The Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Tenby U14s took to the field brimming with confidence after their big win over Herbrandston last week.

However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after only three minutes. When Ashley Murdoch failed to put a simple ball into touch, the Bridge forward crossed it and Danny Harries unfortunately fumbled, allowing for a simple tap-in.

Tenby replied with a strong assault on the visitors' goal, and the pressure finally paid off when a fine run from Ashley Prior resulted in him getting fouled on the edge of the box. Jamie Robinson took the direct free-kick and the ball screamed into the roof of the net for a well-deserved equaliser.

Typically, the visitors made a rare counter-attack and, as with their first goal, Tenby's defence was caught out of position.

The Bridge forced an opening, Harries saved, but he could only parry the ball to the feet of a Bridge forward who was left with the simple task of side-footing it into the net.

The visitors made it 3-1 when Tenby gave away a free-kick outside the box. It was struck cleanly into the area and was headed on by a Bridge forward and over the head of Harris.

Back came Tenby and when Prior ran on to a brilliant through ball from Boswell, he beautifully flicked it over the head of the advancing 'keeper to make it 3-2.

Ben Messenger came on for Saunders seven minutes into the second half and Tenby continued to battle for an equaliser, but it was not to be.

Merlins Bridge made it 4-2 ten minutes from time to knock Tenby out of the cup.

Let's hope that this was Tenby's bad patch and that they can return to winning ways in their next league game.

Grateful thanks to Remi for stepping in to referee the game.

Tenby team: Danny Harries, David Saunders, James Davies, Ashley Murdoch, Damien Walters (capt.), Matthew Fleming, Clem Boswell, Matthew Jones, Jamie Robinson, Ashley Prior, David Jones, Tom Jones, Ben Messenger.

TENBY U13s 12 NARBERTH U13s 1

Tenby U13s scored their quickest goal of the season in just 20 seconds, when straight from kick-off the ball was pushed to Luke Dedman on the right wing. He ran half the length of the pitch and put over a fine cross for Mikey Boswell to slot home.

Goals came thick and fast, with Michael Hannigan turning his defender neatly before shooting home.

Sam Christopher added the third by getting on the end of a cross and Boswell increased the lead to 4-0.

Adam Johns got his name on the scoresheet once again, after an excellent pass from Hannigan, and when Aaron Goldsmith hit the post from a long range shot, Dedman was on hand to cross for Boswell to head home. Christopher put Tenby further ahead just before half-time.

Although Tenby were 7-0 up, Narberth, to their credit, played some good passing football, but Jordan Lloyd and Joe Scourfield in central defence were unpassable. Scott Helmich also had a great game at right-back and the ever-reliable Jamie Robins at left-back kept the Narberth wingers quiet.

Tenby's 'keeper Richard Thomas had little to do in the first half, but with Narberth playing down the slope and Tenby pushing up too far at times, he had to make several good saves.

Narberth put the ball into their own net twice in the second half and Boswell scored twice again.

Christopher, who was having a splendid game, beat the 'keeper after a one-on-one after Goldsmith put him clear.

Ritchie Coleman came on during the second half to make his season's debut and he acquitted himself well.

Before Tenby had settled to the positional changes, Narberth nicked a well-deserved consolation goal.

This was a good team performance and now the squad look forward to meeting Carew in the first round of the cup.

Thanks to Nick for running the line and helping with the nets and Dewi for refereeing.
