TENBY U15s 2 JOHNSTON U15s 2

Tenby Under 15s, sponsored by Willow Carpentry, dropped their first points of the season in an excellent match against Johnston, who are also unbeaten this term. The game had everything, skilful football, hard tackling, good goals and a little bit of controversy thrown in as well. Tenby should have had the game sewn up by half- time, but were guilty of missing some excellent chances. Will Thomas saw a header and a shot go wide and just over the top and Ashley Smith flashed a shot across the face of the goal. The Johnston 'keeper, Joel Codd, made some good saves, before a long clearance from his counterpart, Jake Roberts, found Declan Carroll wide on the right. Carroll's first-time cross was met by Jordan Richards and his shot gave Codd no chance. Thomas made up for his earlier misses when Ashley Andrews sent him racing after a through ball which he hit past the visiting 'keeper via a post. Tenby seemed to be well in command, but two lapses in concentration saw Johnston rattle the crossbar with a snap shot and then reduce the arrears. The home defence pushed a little too far forward and allowed the Johnston striker, Anthony Sutton, room to attack their goal. Although Roberts was quick off his line and saved the initial shot, the rebound fell kindly to Sutton to side-foot home. Whereas the first half belonged to Tenby, the second half belonged to Johnston. But they, too, were guilty of missing some good chances and it was a case of whether they could find the equaliser, or if Tenby could hold on for the win. The Seasiders thought that they had clinched the victory when Greg Lees-Griffiths's long ball resulted in a race between Jordan Richards and the visiting 'keeper. Richards got there first and deftly headed the ball over the advancing 'keeper and into the back of the net. Although signalled for a goal, the referee, David Badger, then consulted with the Johnston linesman who had given offside for another player interfering with play. The goal was disallowed. With less than 10 minutes on the clock to play, a good Johnston attack reached their winger, Jamie Ashman, on the edge of the box and his shot just eluded Robert's outstretched hands. Tenby had one last chance with a free-kick on the edge of the Johnston box, but the kick went wide. However, it was probably a fair result in the end. Tenby side: J. Roberts, G. Lees-Griffiths, C. Hurlow, P. Elliott, D. Edwards, A. Andrews, D. Carroll, J. Richards, A. Smith, G. Warlow, W. Thomas, R. Fairlie, A. Heesom, A. Roberts.

tenby 4 narberth 0

First match of the season took the boys to an away game at Narberth, on a glorious Saturday morning, with the boys eager to play. They were to play 20 minutes each way against Narberth. The first half saw plenty of excellent play, fantastic positioning and great defence by Elliott Moorhouse and Tom James, who held the ball in Tenby's favour for most of the first half, with Jack Broadhurst in goal, determined as ever that nothing was going to pass him. The Narberth defence was strong and almost took Tenby into half-time with no goals scored. However, after some excellent passing, Ben Palin, with a cracking shot, sent the ball into the back of the net just before the whistle blew and the young Seasiders went into the break 1-0 up. The second period saw Tenby quicken their pace even more, with great defence from Tom Jones, who also had a cracking shot on goal, excellent runs to the left and right from Tom Murphy, Ben Palin and Ryan Conbeer, with midfielders Caie Elms and Dan Wainwright passing excellent balls to striker Toby Poole, leaving him to score a hat-trick during the half. Well done boys, a great first win of the season. Thanks, as always, to Matthew Broadhurst for being the ever-dedicated coach and to all the parents for their continued support. Team: Elliott Moorhouse, Ben Palin, Toby Poole, Caie Elms, Jack Broadhurst, Ryan Conbeer, Dan Wainwright, Tom Jones and Tom Murphy.

MILFORD UTD U13s 1 TENBY U13s 4 On a grey, gloomy morning we travelled to Milford to see the boys sporting yellow and black shirts - would their play be as bright as that yellow? With several key players sidelined through injury and illness, Milford were a daunting prospect, our last meeting being our narrow (but good!) cup final win. From the kick-off, Tenby assumed dominance of the game, the midfield providing ample ball for the forwards to chase and the defence coping admirably, as always, with any threat from the opposition. But it was a slender lead we took into half-time, Cheyne opening his account for the season having been put through by Joe. Second half and Tenby started well, with several players involved in a move which saw Dan grab our second as the ball rebounded off the Milford goalie. Then it all went a bit quiet and rather than close the game down, Tenby relaxed, and Milford had a 10- minute spell when they seriously threatened. A lucky break saw them scramble one goal back and more looked likely before Tenby tightened up their game again and Joe scored a brace with superb speed, strength and skill. This victory was largely due not only to each player's individual contribution, but to a great display of teamwork and support... the words 'quality team' were heard to come from the Milford dressing room after the match! Thanks to coach-for-the-day Simon, Ted on the line, the rather depleted touchline gang and of course the team: George McBeth, Corey Morris, Jack Murphy, Sam Butler, Ben Simmons, Hugo Wellum, Joe Worley, Toby Rossiter, Rhys Nicholas, Cheyne Lloyd, Daniel Fairlie.

Goodwick U12s 4 Tenby u12s 8

This game was dominated by forwards and produced 12 goals, in spite of some desperate defending by both teams. Tenby went into an early lead through Richard Tebbutt and were soon 2-0 ahead through Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, leaving Goodwick looking shocked, but from the second home attack, Tenby failed to clear the danger, and a Goodwick forward rolled the ball into an unguarded net. Goodwick were encouraged by this, but Tenby hit back, adding a third goal through Brandon, and then James Bridges crossed well for Brandon again to force the ball in at the far post for a brilliant first-half hat-trick. Tenby's 4-1 lead looked a fair reward for good attacking play, but Goodwick again forced the ball in after several attempts by the Tenby defence to clear the ball out of their penalty area, to score a second before half-time. Tenby played their best football of the match for the first part of the second half and James Bridges (2) and Richard Tebbutt gave their team a 7-2 lead. Lewis Roberts made a good save with his leg to thwart the home side, and hard-working captain Jerome Mansbridge figured well for his team, and almost put Tenby further ahead with a high shot which produced a good save from the home goalkeeper.

Goodwick fought hard for the ball as the game wore on, and they became more positive, attacking strongly along the wings, but fullbacks Jacob Dent and Luke Conbeer marked up well to cover central defenders Rob Davies and Nathan Wilson, who had to contend with some fast attackers to restrict the scoreline. Ryan Price, on the Tenby left side, had the game of his life and supplied plenty of ball for the forwards to run onto. Now playing for pride, Goodwick made a big last effort to get something out of the match, and from a breakaway, Lewis Roberts made a good save with his leg. The home strike force was very fast in counter- attacks, but in terms of team play, Tenby always had the edge with their superior passing. Miguel Cruz came on and slotted in well with the rest of the team. Tenby's fullbacks had good games to restrict the Goodwick wing play throughout the match, but after Goodwick eventually pulled two goals back to make the score 7-4, Ellis Morgan ran through for a Tenby eighth goal to put the game out of their reach. Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Jacob Dent, Rob Davies, Nathan Wilson, James Bridges, Jerome Mansbridge, Richard Tebbutt, Ellis Morgan, Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, Ryan Price, Luke Conbeer, Miguel Cruz.

TENBY U10s 14 SAUNDERSFOOT 0

Tenby Under 10s started as they meant to go on, with George scoring his first goal within minutes of the whistle blowing. Pressure from the Tenby side continued, with captain Billy and Frazer winning the ball constantly. Frazer, playing well, went on to score the second goal of the match. Good defending in the first half from Jordan and Harry kept Saundersfoot well away from the Tenby goal. Saundersfoot finally made a break, but failed to get past Harry. George scored his hat-trick following an excellent pass from Jordan, then within minutes Luke scored his first goal after Malley won the ball from the Saundersfoot defenders. Adam also netted, resulting in the score being 6-0 at half-time. Adam and Billy both worked hard throughout the game and both scored in the second half, as well as Ben, who took the ball the full length of the pitch to net his first goal. Goalkeeper Natty finally had his first touch of ball, which resulted in a great kick to the Saundersfoot half. Saundersfoot never let their spirits drop and their 'keeper saved some great shots. Luke had an eye for goal and went on to score four more, as well as Ben scoring again. Tenby's passing and team play was too much for the Saundersfoot side and just before the final whistle, Malley lined up a lovely ball for Adam, who scored the final goal. Thank you to Saundersfoot for a good, friendly game, and thank you to Neil Truman for refereeing. Squad: Natty John, Harry Goforth, Jordan Cornick, Ben Howells, Malley Paxton, Billy Truman, Adam Davison, George Taylor, Frazer Finlay and Luke Billing.

TENBY AFC U8s 17 LAMPHEY 1

Tenby Under 8s played their first away fixture at Lamphey last Saturday, and after beating Camrose 3-0 in the first game of the season, the boys were hoping to continue their winning ways. A lovely sunny morning and a fine pitch at the Lamphey ground helped the boys play some lovely football, with Billy Lawrence opening the scoring within the first few minutes. Max Brindley was 'on fire', hammering home four goals whilst also supplying some excellent crosses into the box giving Harrison 'the predator' Duckett the chance to score a fine hat-trick. Lamphey fought hard against a strong Tenby side and were unlucky not to steal more than one goal. Starting the game in defence Harry Cook was pushed up front to score an impressive four goals using some excellent skill. Harvey John and Dylan Scotcher were solid in defence, making good saving tackles when Lamphey tried to attack Lewis Sarrionandia kept a clean sheet in goal and played up front in the second half, being a real 'livewire' as he creating lots of chances and proved a good team player. Harry 'the powerhouse' Williams controlled the match from midfield, scoring four goals to add to Billy Lawrence's second, resulting in an impressive win.

Tenby under 14s 17 Kilgetty under 14s 0

Tenby were away to Kilgetty this week and started the scoring early, with the score 2-0 in a matter of minutes. Tenby used the right a lot in the first half through Ben Steele and Greg Cane, which led to Ben scoring three times in the first half. With Robin Munro Goddard (4), Greg Caine (3) and Craig Lucas (4) all coming to the party, and also adding to the score sheet, Tenby were well in command by the half-time whistle. Kilgetty defended an early second half onslaught by Tenby, but the defence seemed to have been unlocked when a penalty was awarded for handball inside the box. Craig Lucas stepped up to take the penalty, but powerfully struck the ball straight at the 'keeper and on the rebound blasted the ball wide of the open goal. The Tenby coach made a couple of substitutions, with Greg Caine and Alex Bailey departing to make way for Jacob Webster and Cameron Wood. A few minutes later, another penalty was awarded as a Kilgetty defender fouled a Tenby player. This time Cameron Wood calmly stepped up, but again the ball was hit straight at the 'keeper. With the whole team producing an immense performance, Tenby now look to be hitting top form at an early stage of the season. Players: Owen Bateman, Iwan Izzard, Alex Bayley, Will Cowan, Billy Christopher, Ben Steele, Greg Palin, Jake Proctor, Craig Lucas, Greg Caine, Robin Munro Goddard, Cameron Wood, Jacob Webster.
