GIRLS INDOOR LEAGUE

First game for the Tenby U12 A team was against Saundersfoot, and the Tenby girls attacked from the start. Nikki Furlong and Jade Manning played well, chasing every ball, which resulted in Jade scoring four goals and Nikki three.

Danielle Jones and Victoria Brace were solid in defence, making sure Jodie Fecci had little to do in goal.

Leila May came on for the second-half and helped Tenby to a solid team performance and a final 7-0 result.

Their second game was against Neyland Terriers.

The girls took time to settle in the game. Jenna Wright played well in defence and Jodie Fecci played well in goal. Jade Manning scored the first goal.

Victoria Brace then got in on the scoring, before Danielle Jones added two.

Leila May tackled well to keep the Terriers away from the goal and the girls were delighted to win two out of two, the final score being 4-0.

Team: Jodie Fecci, Jenna Wright, Victoria Brace, Jade Manning, Nikki Furlong, Danielle Jones, Leila May.

Tenby U12s B team kicked off with a hard match against Goodwick.

The B side, although a lot smaller and younger than the Goodwick team, played well. Elena Ciccotti played exceptionally well in goal, with Becka Mearns solid in defence. Veteran players Holly Cloake and Lucy May played extremely well in midfield. The players up front, Nia Thomas and Gracie Bevan, were fast to the ball and unlucky not to score from a lot of attempts at goal.

Unfortunately for Tenby, Goodwick had one shot at goal that was successful and that was enough to give them a 1-0 victory.

The B team were determined to win their next game when they met Neyland Athletic. Holly Cloake had a brilliant break from midfield and scored in the first-half. Lucy May was exceptional in goal, saving all the shots that the Neyland Athletic team produced.

Becka Mearns later took over in goal and was equally as good. Elena Ciccotti played solid in midfield and up front with a number of breaks when Neyland lost possession.

Nia Thomas and Grace Bevan also looked impressive up front, but were unlucky not to score after a number of shots at goal.

Final result was a 1-0 victory for Tenby.

Team: Becka Mearns, Elena Ciccotti, Holly Cloake (capt.), Grace Bevan, Lucy May, Nia Thomas.

Good luck girls for your matches next week. Many thanks to Angie for the work done with the girls and to the parents for their help with transport and support during the matches.

Tenby Under 14s' first game against Goodwick was very close, with both sides battling well. Kaylie Davies scored the only goal to give Tenby three points.

Nikki Furlong and Kaylie Davies scored in the second game as Tenby ran out 2-1 winners against Saundersfoot.

Squad: Lauren Wright, Annie Davies, Kaylie Davies, Nikki Furlong, Liz Nicholas.

MONKTON U13s 0

In mild conditions, the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Under 13s welcomed Monkton Swifts to the Clicketts.

Tenby, strengthened by the return of Ieuan Rowell and Matthew Jones, were soon attacking, with Jamie Robinson going close.

Next, Matthew Jones cut inside and fired wide following good work from Matthew Fleming, while a flick on from Ashley Murdoch saw Matthew Fleming just miskick.

However, Matthew Fleming opened the scoring following unselfish work from Ashley Prior who put him clear for a clinical finish.

Neat work, with slick inter-passing between David Jones and Matthew Jones, saw Matthew Jones score with a well hit shot low past the 'keeper to make it 2-0.

Ashley Prior added a fine third soon after, with Monkton 'feeling the heat'.

With the Tenby midfield tenacious in the tackle, the forwards were having something of a field day. Monkton could do little to douse the 'on fire' home XI.

Mathew Jones completed a mazy run with a cracker of a drive for 4-0 and Tenby were rampant. Ashley Prior latched on to a ball following a neat overhead kick by Ashley Murdoch, firing home number five.

Damian Walters was next to go close as Tenby maintained the pressure, with Monkton rarely venturing into the Tenby half.

Ashley Prior notched his hat-trick, beating the 'keeper with a low shot, this following strong approach work by Jamie Robinson.

Mathew Jones also completed his hat-trick with a length of the field move begun by Oliver Morgan and finishing with a tap-in for Jones following a strong weaving and unselfish run from Matthew Fleming.

Monkton responded with some neat inter-passing and forced a corner, but strong defence kept them at bay.

Given the scoreline, a lesser side would have 'thrown in the towel', but Monkton kept battling, keeping their shape and working hard.

Both sides unfortunately suffered injuries, but happily Tenby's David Jones was able to return after treatment.

The half-time score remained at 7-0, but after the break, Jamie Robinson soon fired in for Tenby's eighth, breaking well from midfield after good 'hold up' play from Ashley Prior.

Excellent following up work from David Jones saw him on the end of a fine cross from Matthew Fleming to make it nine, and clinical finishing from Ashley Prior following a pin-point cross from Ashley Murdoch put Tenby into double figures.

Mathew Jones grabbed the 11th following on unfortunate goalkeeping error, and after Mark Davies came on for Damien, Tenby kept up 'the heat' with David Jones hitting a 'fizzer' on the volley following a controlled, defence-splitting header from Jack Lawrence.

Ben Messenger showed strength in the air, cutting out any lofted ball sent down the Tenby left, while Ieuan Rowell dealt effectively with any threat on the right.

A fine stab from Ben Messenger after a flick on from Oliver Morgan and pin-point corner from Jamie Robinson maintained the Tenby bombardment of the Monkton goal.

Tenby's 14th goal came from Matthew Fleming working a slick 'one-two' with Jack Lawrence and sneaking in a shot through a forest of Monkton legs.

Morgan scored the 15th with a shot the unhappy Monkon 'keeper couldn't hold and Jamie Robinson grabbed the 16th and final goal with a low shot into the net.

Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ieuan Rowell, Jack Lawrence, Oliver Morgan, Damian Walters, Matthew Fleming, Jamie Robinson, Matthew Jones, Ashley Murdoch, David Jones, Ashley Prior, Mark Davies, Ben Messenger.

ST. CLEARS U16s 1

St. Clears were the opponents at the Clicketts last Saturday, in ideal conditions, and both sides contributed to an excellent game watched by a small loyal band of supporters.

The Lewis, Lewis and Co., Solicitors, sponsored Tenby Under 16s made a few forced changes to the side which narrowly lost to Camrose the week before. Mike Davis and Liam Robson replaced the absent Matthew Birch and Tom Page in midfield and at centre forward, respectively, while Owain Evans filled the right-back berth for Tom Hilling, who arrived late

Tenby drew first blood when Perry Broadhurst's cross found Jack Christopher wide out on the left; his shot was blocked inside the six-yard box, but rebounded back to him, and this time he made no mistake.

The Seasiders attacked the St Clears goal at every opportunity, but the Saints defended well and looked dangerous on the break. However, the Tenby back four of Simon Hilling, Evans, Darren Taylor and Scott Smith held firm and protected the diminutive Lewis Hurlow, in the home goal, well.

Scott Smith was immense at centre half; his aerial power was superb and he hardly put a foot wrong all match.

Tenby increased their lead when their constant pressure paid off and forced an error from the usually safe Keeron Stone. The ex-Derby player attempted to pass out wide across the edge of his own penalty box, but his kick was far too weak and was pounced upon by Liam Robson. Robson found the corner of the goal with great aplomb.

The Tenby captain, David Day, who with David Otton has forged a great partnership in midfield, was instrumental in Tenby's third. Seeing the St. Clears goalie off his line, he attempted on outrageous lob. The back-pedalling James Carnell did very well to push the ball out from under the crossbar, but it only fell to the ever-alert Christopher to claim his second.

Christopher should have complete his hat-trick, but wasted perhaps the best chance of the opening period.

Guilty in the past of complacency during the second half, the home team were determined to carry on where they had finished the first 40 minutes.

However, St. Clears absorbed early pressure and with their first attack of the half reduced the score with a well taken goal, when Sam Thomas provided a teasing cross for Colin Reynolds to fire in from close range.

It was St. Clears' turn to pressurise the home goal and they were very unlucky not to score a second, when Reynolds hit the crossbar and then struck the post with the rebound.

Hurlow then made two very good saves to deny the visitors, before Tenby regained their composure. Both Christopher and Day rattled the Saints woodwork, before the game was put beyond doubt. Marc Smith received an excellent pass from Mike Davis and went outside his defender, and when everyone was expecting him to square the ball, he cheekily slid it inside the near post.

Chris Iddon almost snatched number five in the last minute, but saw his screaming shot just go over the bar.

Thanks to Roly the ball boy, Alan Sykes for refeering and Hilling of Tenby for sponsoring the match ball.

Tenby squad: L. Hurlow, O. Evans, S. Hilling, D. Taylor, S. Smith, D. Otton, D. Day, P. Broadhurst, M. Davis, L. Robson, J. Christopher, M. Smith, C. Iddon, T. Hilling.
