PEMBS. WOMEN'S INDOOR LEAGUE

Tenby's Famous Pound Shop ladies indoor teams got off to a good start in the second leg of the indoor tournament played at Pembroke Leisure Centre on Sunday. The A team was undefeated in its three matches, with Nicola Aston, Sally James, Imelde Rossi and Carrie Slack all making a major contribution and working well as a team, with the B team, helped by sound goalkeeping by Angela Nicholls, losing twice by the narrowest of margins, which was a credit to the running efforts of Hazel Sawyer, Cally Roberts, Ani Nicholls and Clare Dooley.

Tenby A 2 Goodwick Young Guns 2: Tenby looked to be running into top form, with goals from Nicola Aston pegging Goodwick back in their own half. Carrie Slack showed good distribution to link up with the defensive efforts of Sally James, with Nicola Aston ready to take advantage of any defensive hesitation to cut in from the right. Goodwick got back in the game seven minutes from the end and equalised with the last kick of the match to get the 2-2 draw.

Tenby A 0 Saundersfoot 0: A slightly re-arranged team saw Carrie Slack do a good job in goal to keep a clean sheet with some good saves, and Imelde Rossi showed outstanding form with her tackling and runs down the left side. Saundersfoot, fielding a very experienced side, were strong opposition and Tenby worked hard physically for the whole of the match to challenge the elusive Emma Rowell and Sian Bennett and give them no room for their shooting skills and take a well deserved point from the game.

Tenby A 3 Saundersfoot B 0: Tenby continued to rotate their team and the combination play of Imelde Rossi, Carrie Slack and Nicola Aston was as good as anything on view in the tournament so far. Saundersfoot tried hard to keep on terms, and the result of 3-0 to Tenby, with everyone scoring a goal, showed that Tenby had the edge in a sporting match.

Tenby B 0 Goodwick OAP 1: Tenby looked solid in the build-up in this closely fought game, where goal chances were at a minimum. Tenby lacked the confidence to build on the midfield tenacity of Hazel Sawyer, Ani Nicolls and Cally Roberts, while Clare Dooley did well in attack without quite getting the support she needed to get the vital goals. Angela Nicholls, in goal, was beaten just once to give Goodwick the points in a closely fought game.

Tenby B 0 Neyland 1: Tenby did well against a Neyland team who are one of the front runners in the competition. A goal past Angela Nicholls from the edge of the goal area gave Neyland a 1-0 lead, which looked very flimsy as Cally Roberts, on the right, and Ani Nicholls, racing down the left, tried hard to get in the vital shot needed to bring the scores level. The whole team played well again and the closeness of the score shows that a bit of luck in front of goal could have brought about a very creditable result to build on the solid defensive play of all the players.

NARBERTH U12s 2

The Picnic Basket sponsored U12s played host to Narberth a week last Saturday.

Tenby, having beaten Narberth 15-1 earlier in the season, knew this was going to be totally different this time around, particularly as they only had 10 men due to the Christmas holidays.

Tenby started brightly and created chances early on, but could not capitalise on this. It was evenly matched for most of the first-half, with good link-up play from Billy Vaughan and Jordan Lloyd down the right, but they still couldn't put the ball in the net.

Tenby's new recruit, Tom Spencer, played in goal, the back four were Joe Lewis, Joe Scourfield, Aaron Goldsmith and Jamie Robins, there was a midfield of Gavin Kinsey, Billy Vaughan, Guto Griffiths and Jordan Lloyd, with Sam Christopher up front.

So after Tenby having most of the first-half, it was ironic that Narberth had a breakaway and scored when the ball was scrambled over the line.

This didn't stop Tenby pushing forward and the equaliser finally did come when a Jordan Lloyd shot hit the post and went across the goal-line, with Sam Christopher sliding in to score and make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second-half started with the same effort as the first, with moves building from Billy Vaughan, Gavin Kinsey and Jordan Lloyd, but again Tenby couldn't seem to finish the final ball.

Narberth again came forward and a few good saves were needed from Tom Spencer to keep them out.

Narberth did again take the lead and with time running out Tenby thought their chance had gone, but with 10 minutes left, a move started by Jamie Robins, Gavin Kinsey and Guto Griffiths finally saw the ball being drilled home by Jordan Lloyd to make the final score 2-2.

Thanks to Remi for refereeing, Mike, Nicky and anyone else who hasn't been mentioned.

HUNDLETON U11s A 2 TENBY U11s 4

The Tenby Taxis sponsored Under 11s travelled to Hundleton last weekend for a game which promised to be one of the games of the season. Hundleton had been unbeaten so far and after Tenby had lost three-nil to them at home the boys were out for revenge.

Tenby elected to play up the hill for the first half, and the game started very scrappily, with neither team able to play the ball around as they would have liked.

Hundleton seemed to settle into their game quicker, however, and managed to make the first breakthrough with a tame goal which should really have been dealt with by Tenby.

The boys then pushed forward, with the midfield of Rhys Winter, Toby Smith, Keifer Thomson and Chris Heesom all linking up well and, combined with Ben Edwards up front, they were producing some good shots on the opposition goal.

Hundleton were trying hard to keep the boys at bay, but after a goalmouth scramble, Rhys hit the ball into the back of the net.

They had the upper hand now and soon went in front after a shot had been parried by the Hundleton 'keeper, only for Ben to tap the ball into the back of the net.

The play then carried on with both teams having shots before the half-time whistle.

The second half began with Hundleton pushing forward; they did not want to lose their first game and managed to hit back and draw level just after the restart.

Tenby then made some changes and swopped some players' positions, with Thomas Griffin and Thomas Nash coming on at the back. This seemed to do the trick, with both combining well with William Hughes in the centre of defence to push play into the Hundleton half and allow the midfield to play higher up the field.

Thomas Griffin passed the ball well down the left-hand side and pushed it through to Rhys, who then crossed for Johnny Lammin to volley into the net. A very good goal which put Tenby in front again.

Tenby then started to apply the pressure and this soon paid off again when Rhys sent over another cross from a corner on the left for Johnny to pop up at the back post to make it four.

Both teams carried on trying to push forward, but the defences held firm, and some good saves by 'keeper Richard Bridges towards the end ensured that Tenby kept their lead for the win.

Well done to all the Tenby boys for a very well fought, tactical game.

Tenby fielded: Richard Bridges, Robert Jones, William Hughes, James Howes, Chris Heesom, Kiefer Thomson, Toby Smith, Rhys Winter, Ben Edwards, Johnny Lammin, Thomas Nash, Thomas Griffin.
