TENBY U16s 2
HAKIN U16s 0
Would the early morning thunder and lightning continue on the pitch as the TP Hughes sponsored Tenby U16s team met arch rivals Hakin in the first round of the West Wales Cup.
The visitors may have possibly thought they had an advantage after an early season victory at the Clicketts, so could Tenby recapture the form that saw them outplay and outscore Hakin in April.
From the start, Tenby played with confidence and belief. An impressive display of slick passing, winning 50-50 tackles, possession, team play and control of Hakin's midfield led to Joe and Callum working the ball through the away defence for Joe to find the back of the net.
The visitors could only look on in disbelief, but threatened with their fast, powerful forwards, and continued to attack the Tenby goal, with 'keeper George managing to pull off several sound saves before the half-time whistle.
Into the second half and with 20 minutes to go, Goldie rose majestically for the home side, meeting a perfectly flighted ball with a glancing header, to put the game beyond Hakin.
This was an outstanding performance from Tenby when team spirit, skills and confident commitment got the victory so richly deserved. Well done to you all!
Thanks go to coaches John, John and Neil, Andy on the line, kit sponsors TP Hughes and Jameston Village Stores and the touchline gang.
Tenby squad: George McBeth, Cheyne Lloyd, Tom Grover, Toby Rossiter, Jack Murphy, Hugo Wellum, Joe Worley, Sam Butler, George Lander, Callum Greer, Elliot Goldsmith, David Webb, James Adie, Matt Davies, Rhys Nicholas, Nathan Farmiloe.
Goodwick U14s 0 Tenby U14s 7
Tenby U14s produced one of their best performances of the season to put seven past Goodwick on Saturday and proceed to the next round of the Pembrokeshire Cup.
With four players still injured, Tenby again struggled to field 11 fit players for the second consecutive visit to Goodwick (this time in in the cup), but played some fantastic football on an excellent playing surface at Goodwick's first team ground.
The Seasiders controlled the game from start to finish and took an early lead when Callum Steele picked the ball up on the left corner of the box and deftly chipped the 'keeper.
Goodwick immediately pushed forward for an equaliser, but Tenby broke quickly to double their advantage. Spencer Williams made a great run down the left and crossed to Sam Smith, who put the ball on a plate for Callum Steele to fire in his second.
After good approach work from Tom Harries and Dan Evans, Tenby then added a third courtesy of a Kieren Jones cracker from the edge of the box.
Goodwick continued to make a game of it, but were constantly thwarted by Tenby centre backs Adam Muskett and Owen Coombs, who were first to everything and played some great passes to the wide men, launching a wave of Tenby attacks.
Daniel Evans, adapting quickly to life up front, swept the ball in from a low corner to score Tenby's fourth.
The Goodwick 'keeper made two brilliant saves from Callum Steele and Kieren Jones, who then put in a great cross, allowing Adam John to volley in at the far post and make it 5-0.
A long Owen Coombs free-kick from deep inside the Tenby half was flicked on to Sam Smith who coolly slotted in goal six.
A minute later, Kieren Jones just cleared the bar with a free-kick from inside the centre circle. The in-form midfielder then curled another 30-yard shot against the post, and Luke Hartland, pushing forward from left back, fired in the rebound.
Well done to the Tenby boys for adapting so impressively to all the recent team changes, to stand-in 'keeper Declan Escott, who hardly had a save to make, and to kit sponsors, Park Road Fish and Chips, Tenby.
