Lamphey U14s 2 Tenby U14s 1

Tenby's first half performance should have given them the points needed to go to the top of the league against leaders Lamphey.

Regular pressure on the home goal from Jerome Mansbridge, Aaron James and James Bridges saw Mansbridge score the opener.

The next 20 minutes saw a string of missed chances that could have been the basis for next year's Football Bloopers DVD.

On the occasions that Lamphey fought back, Tenby's back five of Lewis Roberts, Jacob Dent, Shaun Whitfield, Luke Conbeer and Nathan Wilson stood firm, and blocked out some determined attempts to equalise.

Facing the sun and the very strong wind, Tenby were soon on the defensive in the second half, and after constant pressure, Lamphey equalised past the sound Lewis Roberts, and this seemed to arouse the home team.

Tenby seemed equal to shutting out the mobile Corey Lowndes, but a mistimed tackle in the penalty area resulted in the spot kick, which was converted by Lowndes to take Lamphey into a 2-1 lead.

Richard Tebbutt, Elliot Rivers and Lloyd Hughes responded to the promptings of Niall Kinsella and mounted some dangerous attacks, and Scott Ferney gave a nervy Lamphey defence plenty to think about in the final minutes.

A goal-line clearance after home goalkeeper Billy Woods dropped the ball denied Tenby the equaliser they deserved, and sent their supporters home wondering how such a one-sided match, based on scoring opportunities, could have resulted in a disappointing 2-1 defeat.

Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Jacob Dent, Shaun Whitfield, Niall Kinsella, Nathan Wilson, Elliot Rivers, Richard Tebbutt, Aaron James, Luke Conbeer, James Bridges, Jerome Mansbridge, Lloyd Hughes, Scott Ferney.

Tenby player-of-the-match: Jacob Dent.

Under 8s

A fortnight ago, Tenby Under 8s travelled to Camrose and played four matches on a glorious sunny morning.

Both teams had enough players to select two sides each and played a round robin format. The major factor was Tenby's shooting prowess as the results of 7-0, 6-0, 5-1, 1-1 show.

Last Saturday, Tenby were again on the road, this time to St. Clears, where the weather conditions were in stark contrast to the previous week's sunshine. Constant wind and rain made it difficult to play any decent football, but credit to both teams for trying.

St. Clears deservedly ran out winners by four goals to one, although in the latter stages of the match Tenby did everything but get the ball into the Saints' net.
