Gowerton U16s 1

Tenby U16s 1

(Tenby won 3-2 on

penalties after extra-time)

Tenby Under 16s, sponsored by Willow Carpentry, have reached the semi- final of the West Wales Youth Cup after beating much-fancied Gowerton at the Elba Sports Centre.

Gowerton almost scored from the start, but their shot brought out a good save from the Tenby 'keeper, Jake Roberts. While at the other end, both Declan Carroll and Will Thomas saw efforts go wide.

Although chances were at a minimum, the game was end to end and really kept the small band of supporters on the edge of their seats.

The second half was equally as tight as the first, with again both sides having good chances to score ,but to no avail.

However, that was until 20 minutes from time, when the home side were awarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Their striker quickly nipped in front of Roberts to head in, but before their jubilations had subsided the Seasiders were level. A good flowing movement down the left between Dan Edwards and Ashley Smith, resulted in the latter finding Jordan Richards in space to hit a sweet shot in off the far post.

And so it stayed all-square up to the final whistle, which meant 10 minutes each way of extra-time. Tenby really pushed hard for the winning goal and encamped in the Gowerton half for most of this time. Captain Curtis Hurlow, Thomas and Richards all saw efforts go wide, but the score remained deadlocked at one apiece.

Now it was down to five penalties each. Gowerton raced into a two-one lead, but 'cometh the hour, cometh the man' and that man was Jake Roberts. Roberts saved all three of the remaining Gowerton penalties, while Tenby scored theirs to take the victory.

A tremendous team performance by Tenby, with Roberts just edging the man-of-the-match accolade from Patrick Elliott.

Tenby side: J. Roberts, D. Edwards, P. Elliott, C. Hurlow, A. Heesom, A. Andrews, J. Richards, G. Lees-Griffiths, D. Carroll, W. Thomas, A. Smith, G. Warlow, R. Fairlie, L. Moreland.

HUNDLETON U14s 1

TENBY U14s 3

At long last a game - away to Hundleton for the T. P. Hughes sponsored team on a sunny, but chilly morning. With several regulars absent, it was great to see Corey stepping into action, donning the goalkeeper's shirt.  Tenby were still only able to field 10 men - but what a committed performance they all gave.

With Hugo captain for the day, a different formation took to the pitch and took the game by the horns. Totally outplaying their hosts in the first half, Joe met, perfectly, a sweetly flighted corner and Tenby's dominance was rewarded - 1-0 up at the interval.

Recent performances have seen Tenby sitting back in the second half, but this time it was different. Hundleton could do little to counter Tenby's stranglehold on the game. James, playing his former team-mates, was rewarded with a superb second after several great shots, and Toby, keeping a cool head, added the third.

With the result beyond them, the home side got a rather messy consolation goal towards the end, but 10-man Tenby ended comfortable, impressive winners.  A sound victory, well done!

Thanks to coaches John and James, Ted on the line, sponsors T. P. Hughes and Jameston Village Stores, and the touchline gang.

The Tenby 10: Corey Morris, Cheyne Lloyd, Tom Grover, Sam Butler, Toby Rossiter, Hugo Wellum, Joe Worley, Rhys Nicholas, James Adie, Elliot Goldsmith.

Goodwick u13s 1

Tenby u13s 6

Tenby went into an early lead through James Bridges, but failed to gain any midfield control on a narrow bumpy pitch which made ball control difficult.

However, playing with the slope allowed Tenby to put pressure on a Goodwick defence well organised by Niall Kinsella, but several chances went begging.

Elliot Rivers scored a second for Tenby, but when trying to get a third, they left themselves open to a counter-attack and a penalty resulted.

Goodwick took advantage and made the score 2-1, but Tenby played some good football down the left, with Bridges and Jerome Mansbridge linking well and Ryan Price and Rivers doing the same on the right.

They drew the Goodwick defence out of position, allowing Richard Tebbutt to put Tenby further ahead just before the interval.

Goodwick came out energetically for the second half and put some pressure on the visitors' defence, with Shaun Whitfield and Marcus Read dealing well with the high balls and Jacob Dent and Nathan Wilson covering behind them when needed.

Lewis Roberts made a brilliant save from a cross-shot, but injured himself in the process and was replaced by Luke Conbeer, who had to face the resultant corner.

Tenby's rearranged team soon settled and better passing gave them more possession around the edge of the Goodwick penalty area.

George Wilkins and Richard Tebbutt were beginning to dominate the game, both in possession and in defence, and Goodwick began to look very vulnerable. Bridges added a fourth, and a further two goals were scored by Mansbridge, with other attempts hitting the crossbar or being scrambled away.

Apart from a long shot well saved by Luke Conbeer, Tenby were never really in trouble again, with Rob Davies and Aaron James also taking their places on the field to prove the strength of the Tenby squad.

Rivers, who had some dazzling runs down the wing, had the Goodwick defence in trouble, and Mansbridge put in some good runs later in the game, to prove to Goodwick that there was no way back.

Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Jacob Dent, Marcus Read, Shaun Whitfield, Nathan Wilson, Elliott Rivers, Richard Tebbutt, George Wilkins, James Bridges, Ryan Price, Jerome Mansbridge, Rob Davies, Luke Conbeer, Aaron James.

Tenby player-of-the-match: Elliot Rivers.

Tenby U12s 15

Solva U12s 0

The free-scoring Tenby U12s notched up their 200th goal of the league campaign this week en route to an empathic win at home to Solva.

The opening goal came from a corner on the right. The ball was knocked clear, but picked up by Spencer Williams, whose low cross was turned in by Declan Escott. The striker soon added a second with an unstoppable low shot into the bottom right corner.

A mighty kick from the Solva 'keeper led to a corner for the visitors. But Tenby immediately broke back and a low cross from Owen Coombs in right midfield, was finished by Scott Ferney to put the Seasiders three up.

Another Tenby break led to their fourth, with Spencer Williams getting away from his marker, and crossing to Scott Ferney, who showed some neat footwork before blasting in with his left-foot.

A sweet passing move then led to Tenby's fifth, when a dipping cross from Adam John was met by a diving header by Lloyd Hughes. Lloyd then added another after a good run and cross by Scott Ferney on the right.

Tom Harries came off at half-time after an excellent 30 minutes. Owen Coombs dropped back to right back and Charlie Gammer joined the fray in midfield. He immediately made an impact, cutting in from the right and lifting the ball over the Solva 'keeper to make it 7-0.

Tenby continued to hold their shape well in the second half. Adam Muskett and Jake Morgan defended solidly in the centre of defence, leaving Tenby 'keeper Dan Evans with little to do, while Luke Hartland forged forward from left-back at every opportunity. His neat link-up play set up Spencer Williams for Tenby's eighth goal, an impressive 20-yard screamer.

Declan Escott then curled into the bottom right corner for 9-0, and Adam John swiftly made it double figures for the home side.

Midway through the second half, Scott Ferney, who was carrying an injury for much of the game, was replaced up front by William Davies. Although more used to playing in goal, he created all kinds of problems for the visitors, pressurising the defence into two own goals, before finishing neatly at the far post to complete a 'virtual' hat-trick.

Following a corner on the right, Owen Coombs surged onto the cleared ball, and fired in from the edge of the area to make it 14-0. Adam John, who looked very lively in the closing stages, then scored Tenby's 15th of the game, taking their tally for the season to 209.

Thanks to all the parents from Tenby and Solva for their support, to match referee, Steve Escott, and to the U12s kit sponsor, Park Road Fish and Chips.
