TENBY UnDer 8s 18 FISHGUARD 0
After a long Christmas break, Tenby Under 8s were 'champing at the bit' to get back on a football pitch. A pleasant, sunny morning made the long trip to Fishguard more enjoyable. Tenby started well and from the outset played some lovely football, passing the ball around playfully and putting pressure on a Fishguard team that never stopped trying. The Tenby boys showed great team spirit, playing different positions throughout the game and ensuring that all squad members were involved in the action. A great performance, with goals galore. Scorers: Harry Cook 3, Ben Millwood 3, Harry Williams 6, Harrison Duckett, Max Brindley 2, Finlay Bowie, Dylan Scotcher, Steven Ward. Well done boys, and thanks to all the supporters that travelled.
Tenby Under 15s 10 Neyland Under 15s 0
Tenby Under 15s, sponsored by Willow Carpentry, gained another three points over the weekend in their quest for league silverware. Although the scoreline suggests a comprehensive win, it was far from it. Neyland are bottom of the league and have conceded over 100 goals to date, but their hosts found it difficult to find any cohesion to their play and made what should have been an easy task very hard. They will certainly have to play a lot better when they meet league leaders, Camrose, at the end of the month. Will Thomas opened the scoring for Tenby with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area and hit a second from a similar position. Jordan Richards gave the assist to Ashley Smith to put the home side three up, before Smith set up Declan Carroll to score with an excellent strike. The second half belonged to man-of-the-match Richards, who helped himself to four brilliant individual goals. Greg Lees-Griffiths and Ashley Andrews added the other goals to give the final scoreline a bit of respectability, in what must only be described as a very below par performance from the Seasiders. Tenby side: J. Roberts, P. Horsley, G. Lees-Griffiths, P. Elliott, D. Edwards, A. Heesom, J. Richards, D. Carroll, A. Smith, C. Harland, W. Thomas, C. Hurlow, A. Andrews, A. Roberts.
TENBY U13s 3 MONKTON SWIFTS U13s 3 (Tenby win 6-5 on penalties after extra-time)
With frost still lingering on some parts of the Clicketts, we welcomed Monkton in the latest round of the Pembrokeshire U13s Cup. After last week's lacklustre performance, would Tenby be able to lift their game against opponents who had soundly beaten them in the league fixture? An early shot from Joe hit the crossbar and a great save from George looked positive for Tenby, but Monkton settled down quickly to their task. Sustained Monkton pressure and they were 2-0 up as the home side struggled. Gifted an unfortunate own-goal, Tenby came to life and whilst Mark was taking a January dip in the Ritec saving the ball, the half came to a close, the visitors in command. The second half started very much as the first ended, constant Monkton pressure being rewarded with another goal even after a gigantic save from George. But sudden warmth from the sun and suddenly Tenby heads went up! A direct free-kick - Hugo - back of the net... 2-3. Could the impossible happen? Tenby transformed, roars from the touchline - a corner, surely not - Jack met the ball perfectly... 3 -3! Minutes to go, both sides at full stretch, the final whistle blown - Elliot's shot heading goalwards ... Extra-time, extreme touchline tension, players calm... amazing team spirit. Twenty more minutes - a now muddy, tiring pitch. Status quo - Tenby pressurising Monkton goal. Monkton threatening on the break. End of extra-time - honours even. The dreaded penalty shoot-out. Tenby won - 6-5 sudden death - Monkton tired, Tenby on the crest of a wave after ending match in spectacular fashion. Jubilation all round! Smiling coach John - thank you, the passionate touchline gang - thank you, but the biggest thanks to the victors: George (mega), Corey (penalty showman), Cheyne (strong, steady), Jack (immense - as always), Sam (immense - chopsy!), Hugo (free kick/corner specialist... penalty taker?), Joe (massive, quick, powerful), Toby (tenacious, but hurting), Rhys (effective), Goldie (so unlucky with 'that' shot), David (dangerous), Jake (nimble, quick), Nathan (100 per cent as ever - great penalty!), Scott (one- on-one lethal footwork!). Thrilling result...well done to you all on a brilliant team performance! Camrose Under 12s 4 Tenby Under 12s 1
Tenby Under 12s were thwarted several times by Camrose's very fast centre forward, who was the difference between the two sides. Camrose scored first when a long ball fell to the forward's feet and the Tenby defence just couldn't keep up with him. Lewis Roberts, in the Tenby goal, had already saved many one-on-ones, but he was well beaten with a shot. Several minutes later, Camrose were awarded a penalty, but Roberts made a very good save to keep Tenby in the game. Tenby's defence was kept busy, with Robert Davies and Nathan Wilson holding up well. Jerome Mansbridge and Richard Tebbutt worked hard in midfield and Mansbridge hit the inside of the crossbar. The ball came out, but there was no- one around to finish it off. Elliot Rivers eventually got Tenby's equaliser just before half-time. The second half saw Tenby come out strongly and they forced Camrose to play in their own half. James Bridges and Brandon Taylor-Monaghan put in some very good corners and Rivers had the ball cleared off the line by a Camrose player. Ryan Price and Luke Conbeer worked well together on the left flank and Morgan Slate covered a lot of ground. Against the run of play, Camrose broke away and scored again and despite some excellent defending by Mansbridge. Tenby tried hard to get a point out of the game, but by pushing up the field, they lay themselves open to counter-attacks and Camrose scored twice again before the final whistle. Man-of-the-match - Jerome Mansbridge. Tenby squad: Lewis Roberts, Robert Davies, Nathan Wilson, Richard Tebbutt, Jerome Mansbridge, Luke Conbeer, Morgan Slate, Elliot Rivers, James Bridges, Brandon Taylor-Monaghan, Ryan Price.
