CLARBESTON ROAD 3

The Tenby House sponsored U12s team arrived to play top of the league Clarbeston Road.

In a determined mood, buoyed on by their new kit, thanks to Lesley at the Tenby House and the news of their trip to West End and to watch Swansea City.

After a couple of poor results in the last few weeks, the team required a top performance and they gave one, even though they went 2-0 down against the run of play.

The boys showed great determination to claw one back, with Ianto Griffiths scoring just before half-time with a fine strike.

In the second half they continued to attack and Daryl Mansbridge finally got his goal to level the game.

The boys continued to fight for every ball and Billy Davies got the goal he richly deserved for all his hard work, to give the team a 3-2 lead with just minutes to go, but unfortunately Clarberston Road are not top of the league for nothing, and in the final seconds they equalised to gain a point.

Tenby did not have a man-of-the-match, but 14 of them in a great team effort, and if the boys continue to play like they did in this game, better days will come. Well done Tenby.

Tenby U12s fielded; Lewis Hodgson, Lewis Davies, Lloyd Thomas, Alex Harley, Sam Ormond, Ianto Griffiths, Henry Lawrence, Tom Nicolas, Rhys Hewson, Billy Davies, Daryl Mansbridge, Mike Robins, Brad McDermott Jenkins and Cerith Messenger.

Thanks to Rob Messenger for refereeing the match and to Bish for running the line.

Tenby were literally 'hit for six' in a match played on a perfect pitch, where they could not find the energy to support each other either in defence or attack. Early play indicated that Tenby might be going to record another victory, but complacency in the home penalty area meant that several chances went begging in the first 10 minutes, with their forwards not using enough power to beat the Clarbeston goalkeeper, even from close range.

Clarbeston, realising that this was a game they could win, put some good moves together and began to dominate the midfield, using the crossfield pass to good effect to enable their wingers to run at the Tenby defence.

After 15 minutes, a move down the Clarbeston left saw a cross to their right winger who beat the Tenby defender and slid the ball past Richard Thomas to open the score.

Tenby attacked again, but efforts by Mikey Boswell, Sam Christopher and Billy Vaughan lacked the power or direction to find the net, although Guto Griffiths was beating his marker when given a decent pass.

Tenby's need to consolidate and get some possession through passing never came about, as the home team made more frequent attacks past a defence where Jordan Lloyd and Joe Scourfield had big problems in getting in any form of tackle, and it was largely left to Richard Thomas in the Tenby goal to launch the ball forward.

Tenby's overstretched play left the home team in control and two more goals were added to give Clarbeston a deserved 3-0 lead at the interval.

Tenby, no doubt, hoped that with the strong wind at their backs their goal scoring opportunities would increase in the second-half. More pressure on the home goal from the runs of Guto Griffiths and some long range efforts by Luke Dedman, Billy Vaughan and Scott Helmich, who had come on as substitute right-back, gave the home goalkeeper some practice at taking high balls, but the general lack of power play and aggressive running left Tenby very much second best in this contest.

Clarbeston scored their fourth goal after 10 minutes of the second half, and Tenby's efforts later in the game to show some pride were knocked back with two more goals as the Clarbeston right-winger, who had an outstanding match, provided the openings to make the final score 6-0 to the home team.

This scoreline was no reflection on the play of goalkeeper Richard Thomas who was left with no cover on many occasions, but it did show what can happen if early chances are missed, hard work is not applied in the midfield and defenders do not cover each other. Tenby will be hoping that by some hard work in training there will be no repeat of this type of performance.

Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Gavin Kinsey, Jamie Robins, Joe Scourfield, Jordan Lloyd, Adam Johns, Billy Vaughan, Luke Dedman, Guto Griffiths, Sam Christopher (capt.), Mikey Boswell, Scott Helmich, Henry Boot, Kurt Walsh.

GIRLS INDOOR LEAGUE

TENBY A U14s 1

SAUNDERSFOOT 0

Tenby kicked-off and from the start realised that a tough game was on the cards. The sides were evenly matched with play changing from end to end. Fantastic goalkeeping by Sophie John stopped Saundersfoot from taking the lead. Pressure was on both 'keepers, with a brilliantly taken free-kick from deep inside the Tenby half resulting in the only goal of the game, scored by a somewhat surprised Lucia Fecci.

NEYLAND EAGLES 0

Tenby's second game saw them taking on a much-improved Neyland. While Tenby had most of the possession, Neyland fought well and only constant 'battering' of the goalmouth by the striking partnership of Sophie John and Holly Cloake resulted in a hard hit shot in the left-hand corner of the net by Holly. A good game. Well played everyone.

Team: Lucia Fecci (capt.), Sophie John, Sophie Rees, Holly Cloake, Lucy May, Victoria Brace.

Thanks to Nigel for looking after the team.

MONKTON 1

The Blooms of Lower Frog Street sponsored Tenby U13s travelled to Monkton last weekend.

Monkton unbeaten this season and top of the league were the clear favourites going into this game.

Tenby, wearing their new Blooms of Tenby sponsored kit for the first time, took some time to get into their stride. It was Monkton who dominated all the early exchanges until Tenby broke from defence, and following some neat passes from Jamie Williams and Chris Heesom, Rhys Winter cooly slotted the ball into the back of the Monkton net.

From the restart Monkton came right back putting the Tenby defence under considerable pressure.

However, the back four of Will Hughes, Patrick Roberts, Daniel McDermott and Thomas Nash were more than up to it, and thwarted wave after wave of Monkton attack, until the enevitable happened and Monkton equalised. The score at half-time was 1-1.

In the second half, Tenby came out the more purposeful of the two sides.

Tenby's second goal came when a perfectly judged William Hughes long ball found Toby Smith, who caught the Monkton offside trap napping and calmly put the ball past the Monkton 'keeper.

The game was now all Tenby's and the Monkton players were clearly showing their frustration. Keifer Thomson was at his industrious best, James Maxwell, who replaced the injured Rhys Winter provided the forwards with plentiful ball.

It wasn't long before Chris Heesom added his name on the to the scoresheet, outstripping the Monkton defence showing his blistering pace as he did so.

The final goal was a solo effort from the abrasive Jamie Williams who ran half the length of the field with the ball at his feet before burying it into the Monkton net.

Special mention must be made of Mathew Davies who never tired and never shirked a tackle throughout the game.

Richard Bridges produced a perfect reaction save in the second half, and the back four were clinical in their tackling, as was James Howes who replaced William Hughes in the second half.

All credit to the Tenby team. This was an excellent win, against a very capable Monkton outfit.

MONKTON 0

The Tees 'R Us sponsored U16s took on Monkton this week at the Clicketts.

The match started at a brisk pace with not much 'football' being played. It took a good 15 minutes for the game to settle, but when it did, Tenby were in the driving seat, passing the ball around and playing as a team.

The opener came from Ashley Prior who made no mistake and thumped the ball past the Monkton 'keeper.

A barrage of shots followed none of which found home until Prior gathered the ball from a corner tapping it to Bruce Tasker who scored an unstoppable goal. Tasker within a few minutes scored again showing great finishing skills.

Ben Field Thomas then took a free kick from outside the area which sailed over the goalies head for Tenby's fourth.

Prior scored a cracking fifth from a one-on-one with the 'keeper, while Tasker making full use of his pace gathered the ball, passing it to Adam Ball who scored an impressive goal.

With the score at 6-0 all credit goes to both sides who continued to make a game of it.

From the restart Tenby looked very organised and settled into playing a passing game. Tasker re-opened the scoring giving him a hat-trick. Lloyd Wilson then scored from just inside the half way line hitting the ball with the outside of his right foot which curled the ball around Monkton's players and into the net.

David Jones was next to show his goal scoring ability, easily beating the 'keeper for Tenby's ninth. Prior who scored the opener also scored the closing goal of the game, making it 10 for Tenby and a hat-trick for himself - well done.

All in all a great performance from Tenby, especially in the second half. The defence of Ben Field Thomas, Muthalib Sofan, Sonny Phillips and new signing Nicky Cope were solid and reliable. Midfielders, Adam Ball, Lloyd Wilson, Scott Evans, Matthew Edwards Jones and Andrew Colshaw played a good pass and move game, controlling the midfield. Bruce Tasker, Ashley Prior and David Jones did the business up front and showed great finishing abilities. A special mention must go to 'stand in' 'keeper Dan Escot, who kept a clean sheet - well done. Bruce welcome back after your injury and Nick welcome to the team. Thanks to Phil Caitlin for refereeing. Good luck to Ashley with his new team.

A quick mention of the previous week's match, which was not reported on. The score was Haverfordwest County 3 Tenby 5.

A good strong performance from Tenby who fought hard for the win. Well done lads.

SWIFTS U11s 0

TENBY U11s 6

The Tenby Cycle and Skateboard sponsored Tenby Under 11s travelled to Monkton, on Saturday, for their fourth game of the season.

Josh Koop opened the scoring for the visitors, when his run down the left wing saw him cut inside the home defence and score with a low left footed drive. A rare excursion into the Monkton half by Greg Lees-Griffiths, resulted in his long range effort taking a slight deflection off a defender, which was enough to wrong foot the home 'keeper, to put Tenby 2-0 up.

The Monkton 'keeper had an excellent game, while at the other end Curtis Hurlow, still deputising in goal for the injured Jake Roberts, didn't touch the ball once during the opening period.

The Swifts did have a good spell where they rattled the Tenby post, but the Seasiders finished the half as strong as they had started it, with Jordan Richards making it three with another great shot.

Monkton showed more determination in the second half and Hurlow had to be alert at all times, however, Lees-Griffiths, Daniel Edwards and especially Alex Heesom, playing in defence for the first time, absorbed all that Swifts threw at them.

Josh Koop collected his second of the game after good work by Gareth Warlow and Ben Green stabbed a loose ball home from four yards, his first of the year, following a poor clearance from an initial shot by Philip Horsley.

The last piece of action saw another shot from Richards shot beating the home 'keeper. Indeed, the Monkton 'keeper was in superb form, and had it not been for his heroics in goal the Tenby score would have surely been doubled.

Tenby team: C. Hurlow, G. Lees-Griffiths, D. Edwards, A. Heesom, A. Smith, P. Horsley, J. Richards, J. Koop, B. Green, G. Warlow.

Tenby Ladies 0 Neyland 2

On Sunday, Tenby Ladies football team, sponsored by the Famous Pound Shop, were only able to field 10 players, for their opening match of the season, through injuries and illnesses.

The match against Neyland was very competitive with Tenby having to battle very hard in the first half, with Haylie Lowe and Welsh Under 19 Carrie Slack, plus new signings Lorraine Henton and Dawn Davies defending well against the Neyland forwards.

Goalkeeper, Denise Powell made some spectacular saves to keep Tenby level at 0-0 at half time.

The second half saw a few positional changes with Tenby starting to gel together, and creating several goal chances, from Nicola Aston and Annie Davies. With 15 minutes to go, Tenby were pressurising Neyland in their half, for long periods and were looking to get on the scoresheet.

Several skirmishes were happening in midfield, with Kaylie Davies, Cally Roberts and Michaela Bevan, resulting in one of Neyland's players being taken off.

Now with Neyland down to 10 players, Tenby lost their shape and failed to maximise to this advantage, leaving the opposition unmarked. Neyland were able to score a very good goal from 15 yards out, followed by another goal 10 minutes later.

This Sunday, Tenby will play Haverfordwest at The Clicketts at 2.30 pm. All supporters welcome.

Team players: Denise Powell, Dawn Davies, Lorraine Henton, Carrie Slack, Haylie Lowe, Kaylie Davies, Michaela Bevan, Cally Roberts (capt.), Annie Davies and Nicola Aston
