MONKTON SWIFTS 2
TENBY 1
In an evenly fought game, Monkton were first to capitalise on mistakes and took a valuable three points from a Tenby side eager for victory.
On the back of an unbeaten seven game run, Tenby started as though they wished to grab the points early and finish the game. Their only goal came as a piece of luck after Dom Subbiani left the field with a head wound only to find when returning with a 'Terry Butcher' head-scarf that the Seasiders were one goal up, due to a monstrous kick by 'keeper Davies, which landed on the unfortunate Terrence Kingdom's head and deflected past the helpless 'keeper.
Tenby could have and should have grabbed a second during this important passage in play.
New signing Gavin Scotcher came on late in the first-half to replace the ever-unfortunate Luke Lawrence who now has a broken cheekbone to add to his list of career injuries. Going to press, Luke was undergoing an operation in Morriston and all the team wish him a speedy recovery.
Scotcher gave a 'zest' of life to the team and came close from long distance a number of times, making the 'keeper pull off some aerobatic saves.
Unfortunately, just before the half-time whistle, the impressive Marc 'Jammy' James let the Monkton striker slip behind the defence to finish in style.
Once again, Tenby had failed to capitalise on their lead.
The second-half was hard fought and Monkton must have felt unlucky to have a goal disallowed.
With an onslaught on goal, it wasn't long before 'sweeper keeper' Davies found himself off his line and the Monkton striker decided to try a shot from 40 yards out which lobbed the stranded captain.
Tenby's away fixture tomorrow (Saturday) is to the ever-improving Carew who will be looking to scalp three points from the less than lethal Tenby side.

MONKTON SWIFTS 4
On Saturday both Tenby teams made the short journey to Monkton - but which team would be smiling by the end? Neither.
The Seconds knew Monkton were strong - they had beaten Carew 8-2 earlier on in the season.
The first half started well and with only five minutes gone Seb Palin went through but could only find the 'keeper. Minutes later he missed an open goal and it looked like his day was set.
Tom Davies eventually put the ball in the back of the net after Phil Spindlove made a great run, but could only find the post - it was ruled offside though!
Monkton, in one of their few first half attacks, managed to score after some scrappy play.
Apart from that, Tenby's defence was strong, with James Webb, Peter Horsley, Ben Brooks and Craig Hulme performing well.
The second half was made up of good breaks by Tenby, with the midfield of Willie and Dominic feeding Palin, Brown and Dominic Lamb.
Palin continued to hit the goalkeeper every time he had the ball, but after some good build-up, Tom Davies equalised with a neat finish.
This lifted Tenby and they pushed for another, but this left the defence exposed and it was Monkton who got a second.
Again Tenby pushed for an equaliser, but again Monkton broke free, 3-1!
Tenby kept pressing, but Tony Harris was again exposed moments before the end, leaving a final score of 4-1.
GOODWICK LADIES 2
TENBY LADIES 3
Tenby's Famous £1 Shop sponsored ladies met Goodwick Ladies in the first round of the FAW Women's Cup.
Tenby's recent tendency to treat their matches as a matter of formality, and squander the many chances that they create, came to an end on Sunday when a blistering first-half performance saw them 2-0 ahead against Goodwick Ladies after 20 minutes of play.
Goals by Nicola Aston and Selina Morgan gave Tenby the reward for the superiority they deserved, and the score should have been doubled had Tenby been able to keep the composure necessary in front of goal.
Goodwick got back into the game from a scramble following a corner, but Tenby shrugged this setback to one side and worked hard to play the type of method football for which they are known in Pembrokeshire.
Angela Nicholls came on as a replacement in the middle of the half to give some bite to the Tenby midfield, and some cover to central defenders Imelde Rossi and Carrie Slack.
Try as they did to increase their lead from the 2-1 scoreline, Tenby could not get the 'cushion' needed to open the game up and get some space for a shot, and as a result some pressure from Goodwick resulted in a penalty which fortunately for Tenby was ballooned over the crossbar.
This served as a warning for Tenby and the team came off at half-time having fulfilled much of their potential, but having a useful lead to go with it for once.
The second-half started in dramatic fashion, with Selina Morgan netting after almost the first attack to give her side the 3-1 lead they richly deserved.
After this, Denise Powell had plenty to do in the Tenby goal and Hazel Sawyer was outstanding at left-back, marking her tricky winger with great tenacity. Sally James made the midfield her own with an outstanding performance of winning the ball and getting a supply to Nicola Aston to give the Goodwick left side plenty to think about.
On the other side of the pitch, Michaela Bevan, using some clever flicks-on from Cally Roberts, looked dangerous when cutting in to win several corners, as a packed Goodwick defence was working hard to hold on.
Goodwick, using all three substitutes, worked hard to get back in the game and their strength in the air and from dead ball situations gave Tenby some worries in defence, but generally Denise Powell was in commanding form, apart from a long high free-kick under the crossbar which gave Goodwick their second goal.
With the score at 3-2, it looked a test of character for a Tenby side which had conceded a last minute goal against Haverfordwest the previous week.
However, the combination play of Carrie Slack, Tracey Parks, Sally James and Nicola Aston rounded off a high class team performance to keep the necessary ball possession and the score at 3-2 to allow Imelde Rossi to reorganise the middle of the defence when Goodwick put in a couple of desperate attacks towards the end of an exciting match.
Tenby squad: Denise Powell, Tracey Parks, Carrie Slack, Imelde Rossi, Hazel Sawyer, Nicola Aston, Sally James, Ani Nicholls, Michaela Bevan, Cally Roberts, Selina Morgan, Angela Nicholls, Haley Richards.
This win puts Tenby Ladies Football Club into the second round of the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history.
Thanks are due to Neyland Athletic Club for staging this fixture in the absence of a suitable pitch at Goodwick, the home club in this cup tie.
SOLVA U13s 2
TENBY U13s 7
The quality of mercy is not strained, it droppeth like the gentle rain from heaven, and 'droppeth' it did on Saturday when the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored U13s played Solva in the opening round of the U13s Cup.
Tenby opened the scoring with a thunderous drive from Jamie Robinson following a run from Matthew Jones.
Ashley Murdoch struck for Tenby's second.
Solva continued to battle it out. However, David Jones was next to go close with a volley which came back off the Solva 'keeper.
The next action of note was a fine save from Tenby goalie Danny Markes who beat down a shot from a Solva forward. Danny collected comfortably from the resultant corner.
A speculative effort from Jack Lawrence then flew wide, before David Jones went close, denied by the post.
Solva were defending well, while Tenby lacked shape and precision in their play, the crossing in particular not up to its usual high standard.
A defensive mix-up in the Barthez/Brown manner gifted Solva a deserved goal.
Danny Harries collected again from a Solva free-kick from the edge of the box, and Matthew Fleming calmed Tenby's nerves with a fine run and shot which gave the Solva 'keeper no chance for 3-1.
Tenby's play was lacking its usual sparkle, with Solva's tenacious tackling and pressure on the man in possession keeping their big guns quiet.
After the break, David Jones, following neat work from Jack Lawrence, further helped Tenby's cause with a well-taken goal to make it 4-1.
With Ashley Murdoch then brought down 'in the box', the Solva 'keeper made a fine save from Ashley's spot kick and also pushed aside Jamie Robinson's follow-up effort.
Several Tenby players went close, before David Jones, showing determination, skill and strength on the ball, set up Jamie Robinson to fire in number five.
Jamie went through again, but this time unluckily fired over.
Then Ben Messenger, from the halfway line, scored Tenby's sixth. He had had a couple of 'range finders' and set the seal on a good personal performance with a stunning effort which lightened the gloom!
Messenger again scored, lobbing the unfortunate Solva 'keeper for another fine goal.
Solva, far from downhearted, responded with a goal after Danny Harries had stopped a close quarter drive.
With no further action of note, Tenby go through to the next round.
Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ieuan Rowell, Ben Messenger, Oliver Morgan (capt.), Damian Walters, Matthew Fleming, Jack Lawrence, Matthew Jones, Ashley Murdoch, David Jones, Jamie Robinson.

PENNAR 0
The Picnic Basket sponsored Tenby Under 12s side continued their good run with an impressive 10-0 victory over Pennar.
Sam Christopher opened the scoring after some good inter-play by Adam Johns and Gavin Kinsey. Aaron Goldsmith scored not long after and then captain Billy Vaughan put two past the Pennar 'keeper, the first being a well-taken rebound after a blocked Goldsmith shot and the second after Tenby 'keeper, Richard Thomas, kicked out a long ball that Vaughan latched on to.
Guto Griffiths scored the most spectacular goal of the first-half with a right foot volley from a Goldsmith cross.
The second-half saw Griffiths score again, then Jordan Lloyd made it 7-0 after the Pennar 'keeper fumbled a corner. The ever-alert Lloyd was on hand to finish it off.
Jamie Robins scored the eighth, with Goldsmith adding another, before Luke Dedman had the final say, heading in a well-taken Vaughan free-kick.
Richard Jones and Joe Scourfield contributed well to a good team performance and Scott Helmich had his best game of the season.
Thanks to Steve Maytum for refereeing, Martin Kinsey for running the line, and the parents and boys that helped with the nets.
Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Joe Scourfield, Scott Helmich, Luke Dedman, Aaron Goldsmith, Adam Johns, Billy Vaughan (capt.), Gavin Kinsey, Sam Christopher, Guto Griffiths, Jordan Lloyd, Jamie Robins, Richard Jones.
