Ben James, who has been a First Responder for two years, and paramedic Sue Hughes will now attend the ‘Western Telegraph Health and Care Awards 2018’ ceremony at Withybush Showground on October 11, where they will be up against other nominees for the award, paramedics Nick Tebbutt and Anthony Carter, and ambulance technician Victoria Jones.
The winner will be announced, and the award presented by TV’s Dr. Hilary Jones.
Ben said: “It’s a massive honour just being nominated for an award, but actually being chosen as a finalist is amazing and hopefully, we’ll bring the award back to Tenby!”
Tenby and Saundersfoot First Responders are volunteers who are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service to administer first aid, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator.
They donate their spare time to attend 999 calls and provide first hand emergency care to people in their own community.
When a 999 call is made, First Responders are alerted by WAST‘s three control centres and are sent to calls the same time as an ambulance so they can provide essential care until the vehicle reaches the scene.
