Sir, I would like express my very sincere appreciation of the response of local residents to my appeal to raise funds for Thai tsunami orphans. On the afternoon of January 22, Maureen Ward and a small army of helpers organised a Bazaar/Jumble Sale in the De Valence that raised £328.07. That evening, a group of very talented local performers presented a Charity Variety Show that raised another £448.20, and those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves. In addition, a further £660 has been raised from cash donations, including £50 from 11-year-old James Griffiths, of Jeffreyston, being the proceeds from his sponsored New Year's Day Swim. Further donations are still arriving. It would be impossible to list the individuals who contributed in some fashion towards this good cause, but all of you may rest assured that your efforts were not in vain and all the proceeds will go directly to benefit Thai orphans. When the fund-raising has concluded detailed accounts will be deposited at the council offices for public perusal.
