Local councillors are to continue to campaign for ‘traffic calming measures’ to be introduced to two parts of Tenby, after receiving an unsatisfactory response from the local authority.
At a recent meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter told her colleagues that she had been approached by residents of The Glebe asking if Pembrokeshire County Council could look at putting traffic calming measures in place and a 5 mph limit sign.
She also flagged-up similar issues to look at road safety measures along Heywood Lane from Tudor Way to the Clicketts, as visibility pulling out of the estate was extremely limited, again after she had been approached by residents of Oakridge Acres raising concerns.
Speaking at this month’s meeting, Cllr Mrs Rossiter told her colleagues that she had read the reply from PCC and had not expected anything different regarding the Glebe, as no accidents have been reported so nothing will be done.
Regarding Oakridge Acres, she had spoken to residents again who confirmed that vegetation has been cut back but they felt it was not enough.
“Both a mirror opposite and a reduction in the speed limit is needed. PCC have come back to us and there has been no mention of the other suggestions put forward,” she remarked.
“There are serious concerns for residents trying to get out of their estate that something needs to be done about before something goes wrong,” added Cllr Rossiter, stating that the town council needed to press PCC for ‘action’.
“It is a shame there might have to be an accident before anything is done,” concurred said Cllr Lynn Attewell.
It was proposed that further correspondence be sent to PCC’s Head of Infrastructure, Transport and Environment, Darren Thomas to again look at improving safety provision at the junction of Oakridge Acres and Heywood Lane.
