Thirty-three Civic Society members and friends filled a coach on Friday last from Tenby to Cresselly House for a guided tour.
The party was greeted at the house by Tom Lloyd, and then beside the front lawn in the glorious evening sunshine, he explained how the early Jacobean house sloping down the hill was replaced early in the 18th century by a symmetrical stone house with kitchen and stable wings.
This faced down the hill towards the estuary and forms the core of the current house which was further enlarged in Victorian times. Moving inside, Tom guided the party through the history of the Allen family using the portraits in the dining room, before showing the party round the library, the impressive blue drawing room and lounge.
After extracting trip organiser Albie Smosarski (proprietor of the Cofion bookshop) from the library, and some members from the capacious sofas, Tom was warmly thanked for his entertaining accounts of the house and family and a coachful of chattering members returned to Tenby having enjoyed the society's first trip for quite some time, arranged by committee members Albie Smosarski and John Beynon
