Tenby Civic Society have moved to clarify their ideas regarding a ‘pedestrian priority area’ for the seaside town.

They’ve stated that such a suggestion for the centre of Tenby, would not interrupt vehicle access into the Walled Town, as happens with the summer ‘pedestrianisation’ scheme run by Pembrokeshire Council.

Civic Society chairman Chris Osborne said: “Pedestrian Priority Areas have been adopted in various towns and cities around the UK, including Edinburgh, Brighton, Leicester, Liverpool and a number of London Boroughs. They are not the same as pedestrianised areas.”

The Civic Society explained that they see the Walled Town as an ideal location to “prioritise pedestrians” by reducing the current vehicle speed limit from 20mph to 10mph, therefore making it a ‘pedestrian priority area’ all year-round.
