Tenby’s army cadets have been praised by the seaside town’s Mayor and Deputy.

At a recent event, held on June 26, Mayor of Tenby, Cllr Dai Morgan said that he was ‘honoured’ to address cadets and that it was a ‘privilege’ speaking to them.

The Mayor told Cadets: “34 years ago, I stood where you stand now, wearing the same uniform and learning the same values - discipline, respect, teamwork, and pride in serving our community.”

A special moment during the evening was welcoming Tenby’s newest Mayor’s Cadet, Sergeant Jason Priestley.

“This role is more than just a badge, it’s a reflection of leadership, dedication, and the high standards our young people uphold,” continued Cllr Morgan.

Cadet Sergeant Priestley join fellowed Mayor’s Cadets from the Sea Cadets, Police Cadets, and Air Cadets.

"Each of you represents the best of your organisations, and together you show the strength, diversity, and spirit of Tenby's youth. To all the cadets, thank you. You are a credit to Tenby, and we couldn’t be more confident in our future,” added Deputy Mayor, Cllr Tom Sloan.

The event coincided with othes across the county and country to mark Armed Forces Day on June 28.

With the Armed Forces flag flying proudly at County Hall in Haverfordwest on the day, leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Cllr Jon Harvey, and the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Simon Hancock marked the flag raising occasion with a few words.

Cllr Hancock said: “Armed Forces Day is a timely opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community, including serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets.

“Pembrokeshire County Council is rightly proud of the County’s long association with the Armed Forces and last year I was honoured to receive on behalf of the Authority the UK’s highest badge of honour for supporting the Armed Forces, the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.

“This recognises the work the Authority has done to support the Armed Forces Community here in Pembrokeshire and underlines our commitment to ensure the warm relationship between Pembrokeshire and our Armed Forces continues long into the future.”

The flag raising for Armed Forces Day was also an opportunity to highlight the recent gift of a piece of Pembrokeshire military history.

A large RAF Brawdy Station badge with accompanying short history of the RAF base was presented to the Council by David Warneford and placed in reception.

The inscription accompanying the badge says it was presented ‘in appreciation of their support and friendship’ to the people of Pembrokeshire by Squadron Leader Warneford, the last Commanding Officer of RAF Brawdy on behalf of all those who served at the base.

Cllr Hancock added: “RAF Brawdy is a part of Pembrokeshire military history. So many Pembrokeshire people will have connections to the base and those who served there. It is an honour to display this badge at County Hall.”

Wales has a long-standing tradition of military service. That spirit of service continues today, with Welsh troops deployed across the world.
