Roads into Tenby were opened earlier then expected ahead of last weekend's Bank Holiday, much to the delight of the town's people and businesses.
Following the demolition of the Royal Gatehouse Hotel, Pembrokeshire County Council had scheduled to get the roads into the town at The Norton and White Lion Street, re-opened on Saturday morning after being off limits for nearly six weeks.
However, the routes in front of the site of the former hotel, destroyed in an Easter Bank Holiday blaze, were able to let vehicles back through into the town from 5 pm on Friday afternoon.
"Huge thanks must go to Pembrokeshire County Council for all their hard work in getting the roads back open before the Bank Holiday weekend," said Tenby county councillor Mike Evans.
"Credit goes to county council's area maintenance manager for the south, Mr. Glenville Codd and his team. It is unbelievable what they have managed to achieve in getting the circuit in and out of the town back into play and relaying the tarmac in a short space of time since contractors demolished the remainder of the building.
"They must be applauded on behalf of the town, as it was vital for the businesses in Tenby that everything was back up and running ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend," added Clr. Evans.
