Two local Pembrokeshire schools' swim relay teams became Welsh champions recently after competing in the Welsh Schools Secondary Sladen competition held in Brecon. School teams from all over Wales had travelled to take part in three different age groups. The standard of swimming was extremely high, with some pupils from the national team competing for their respective school teams, resulting in some very exciting races. The champion teams were Pembroke Junior Boys and Greenhill (Tenby) Senior Girls. The Pembroke team of Jago Neath, Sam Lewis, George James and Patrick Bunker won the freestyle event and came a close second in the medley, while the Greenhill quartet of Sophie Arthur, Heather Whittaker, Gemma Amos and Tasha Kinsey won their medley event, finishing third in the freestyle. Other commendable results were: Greenhill Junior Boys (Josh Thomas, Elliott Hoad, Jake Jenkins, Sam Jaakola and Paul Rees) finished eighth in the freestyle and sixth in the medley. Greenhill Junior Girls (Sydney Vickery, Eleri Canton, Lauren Arthur, and Bethan Davies) qualified for both finals, being pipped at the post, finishing second in both events Greenhill Intermediate Boys (Nathen Clarke, Henry Whittaker, Jack Lear and Matt Davie) also qualified for both finals, finishing second and third, respectively.
