The Probus meeting on Wednesday, January 17, was the AGM. At the commencement of the meeting, retiring president, Alan Brooks, was in the chair.
Before proceeding to the formal agenda, Alan requested the members to stand for a minute’s silence in memory of the late John Tipton and the late Tony Webster, both of whom had passed away since their last meeting and were long term members of the Probus. After this very sombre moment, the meeting moved to the formal agenda.
Apologies were received from Doug Silcox, John Webb and Bert Newman.
Alan Brooks then gave his president’s report on the past year. He covered talks and outings, reminding everyone what a full and interesting time they had had.
Then it was the turn of the treasurer, Ray Poole, to present the accounts for the year. There was full discussion on this before it was passed by the membership.
Next came the election of officers for 2018. The following were appointed: president - Arthur Squibbs; vice-president - Greg Grist; treasurer - Ray Poole; and auditor - Doug Silcox.
The raffle was won by Tom Peake, before new president Arthur Squibbs closed the meeting.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 7, at the Hazelwell Club, when the talk will be given by Greg Grist. New members are always welcome. Phone 01834 842519 for more information on the club.
