The second meeting in August began with the president plying the gavel and the members engrossed in their conversations. Ray Poole, president, began the proceedings with his list of events that had occurred on this date in yesteryears.

The secretary raised the item of the Christmas lunch as the Giltar Hotel had sent a copy of the menu. It looked good and it was agreed that they go ahead and book Wednesday, December 4, as the date. The secretary will raise this item again nearer the date.

Speaker for the morning was Arthur Squibbs, who was assisted by Ray on the electronics. After a short talk about the coming of the railway in the 1800s, they proceeded to show a 15-minute film, made by the GPO film unit in 1936, of the night mail service from Scotland to London. Unable to get the sound working, the film was run in almost total silence. Arthur was quick to point out how the Royal Mail, and trains, had improved since the '30s.

The next meeting is on September 4 when the speaker will be Doug Perry. For more information, phone Lew Day on 844633.
