For the first meeting in June, there was a goodly crowd present and a nice air of expectation, as it was the eve of the trip to the Peak District.

President Peter Durdin was pleased to welcome Cecil Evans back to the club as he had been absent for some time. Birthday boy was Phil Beesley, whose birthday it was on that morning. The secretary had a few items of correspondence and then it was into the meeting proper.

The speaker for the morning was the president, who was drafted in as the scheduled speaker was away in France to attend the D-Day celebrations. His theme was the shambles that Parliament had got itself into with fiddling expenses and how he had encountered this at a lower level during his working life.

Several members were able to speak on similar situations in their own experiences. So a discussion ensued at some length.

Don Griffiths read a joke, that had come over the internet, which caused much mirth.

The next meeting is on June 17 when the speaker will be Ron Hurlow.
