The last meeting of the year was a social and festive event (writes L.D). Thanks to the generosity of Wilf Hardy, the coffee was well laced with 'Nelsons Blood,' as my old dad used to say, and the members feasted on mince and apple pies made by Margaret.

The president and members were pleased to accept Robert Smith into membership and we hope that he enjoys his time with us.

The secretary was instructed to get in touch with the Glamorgan Cricket Club with a view to us running a trip to Cardiff and having a conducted tour around the new cricket stadium in July.

There being no speakers for the morning, people were invited to reminisce about Christmases past. The only problem was that the secretary monopolised the occasion and finished up singing a carol with modern lyrics. It was noticeable that all of those with hearing aids turned them off!

It was nice to have Derek Shaw join us for most of the morning as he is now resident in foreign parts.

The president cut the meeting short, but not before the members had thanked Simon for the way he had looked after us through the year.

It was an enjoyable meeting and we look forward to many more during 2009.

On behalf of the members, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all our friends and supporters good health and happiness in the coming year.

Our next meeting will be on January 7 when our speaker will be Darrel John, who tells me that he has a 'story to tell.' For more information, contact Lew Day on 844633.
