After a night of heavy rain, members were lucky to have fine, dry weather for the start of their second meeting in August. It was not all good news as their president was absent with a heavy cold. But all was not lost, as the vice-president, Arthur Squibbs, was on hand to fill the breach. He began by welcoming all those present, but numbers were well down, so maybe this summer cold had spread. The anniversary boy for the day was Steve Hinton, who was there to receive the club's congratulations. The secretary reminded members of the Ladies Day planned for August 29 and also invited them to suggest a speaker for the Ladies Day at the end of October as he was all out of ideas. The speaker for the morning was Don Griffiths, who reminded everyone that it was the 67th anniversary of the air attack on the oil tanks at Pembroke Dock. This was still one of the biggest fires in the UK. Thank you, Don, for an interesting talk. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 5, when it is hoped that the president, Tony Webster, will be back, as he is also the speaker for the morning.
