The second meeting in February was well attended and the new president, Tony Webster, welcomed everyone, with a special word for Tom Hughes who had returned fit and well. It was nice to have him back. Best wishes were expressed to Arthur Squibbs and John Potter on their forthcoming birthdays. The secretary read a letter which he had received from his nephew in Papua New Guinea where he is working. He described the apartment they were living in as 'like a prison' and it certainly sounded like that, with treble locks and bars on doors and windows. This sparked off a lively conversation and the upshot of it was that one of the members said that they had slide photographs from New Guinea and the secretary talked him into giving a presentation on one of their Ladies Days. The 10-minute speaker for the morning was Ken Hamilton and his talk was entitled 'How lucky can a man get?' The gentleman in question served in the First World War with the Canadian Regiment, when he had many close encounters with gas and shrapnel, and was a serving officer in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War, when he was bombed and torpedoed by the Italian Air Force. Ken then revealed that this gentleman was his father. Had any of his mishaps proved fatal, there would have been no Ken to entertain them. The next meeting will be held on March 7 when the 10-minute speaker will be Greville Bate. If you are a retired professional or business man, why not go along and join members for the morning at Tenby Bowling Club. Contact Lew Day on 844633 if you need more information.
