Last Wednesday, the bridge club celebrated the 80th birthday of member Bert Barnikel, who hosted a party organised by the management committee. Though rare, the club has enjoyed several octogenarians' birthdays in recent years.

The party laid on for Bert was an exception as the impressive members in numbers attending soon swelled past the record of 50 players. The considerable tasty food and the variety of wines certainly turned it into an exciting evening.

Bert thanked everyone present for the way he has been accepted by the many members for nearly 20 years now.

There is always an enthusiastic welcome, plenty of humour and no moans all down the happy years. 

Friday, November 13, saw horrific weather dent the enthusiastic bridge players, but nevertheless those who braved the elements played the Teams duplicate.
