Wednesday, November 12, saw club members doing their bit for Children in Need, whilst participating in a nationwide simultaneous duplicate bridge tourney.
A total of 1,566 pairs from 86 clubs in four countries were involved. This, added to all of the other Children in Need bridge events, has produced over £46,000 to date. A worthy effort.
Results of the eight-table Mitchell played: North/South - 1. Doug Silcox and Ray Bowen 56.85 per cent; 2. Peter Milewski and Colin Nash 55.06; 3. Cindy Middleton and Irene Delahunty 53.27. East/West - 1. Carmel Wiseman and Graham Hadlow 63.99; 2. Tina Torkington and Lyn Lawson 56.25; 3. Liz Crockford and Kevin Thomas 52.08.
After uploading the club's results to the bridge centre, they are slotted in with all the others and quite often there are marked changes to the individual scores. This time, all N/S scores were upgraded a few percentage points, but the poor old E/W were hammered, all dropping several points. Never mind, it was a worthy cause.
Highest performers nationally from the club were Peter and Colin, who were 38th.
Friday, November 14, was another busy night, with five tables in play. Competition was hot and over half of the pairings beat the 50 per cent barrier. Winners: 1. Sue Enfield and Nicky Hancock 62.96; 2. Kevin Thomas and Doug Silcox 60.65; 3. Ashleigh Scrimshaw and Jean Pollard 57.87; 4. Sue Batten and Eileen Dowling 53.24.
Christmas is coming and so is the popular Christmas bridge dinner on Wednesday, December 10, at the Giltar. The menus are now available. Please return your choice with money to Judy, who has kindly offered to collate the dinner list etc., asap.
