The summer barbecue at the preferred change of venue this year, the Trefloyne Golf Club, proved a winner for the management committee, led by chairman Tina Torkington. With summery weather persisting (until 4 pm), members enjoyed their excellent lunch, semi- alfresco, before club director Kevin Thomas got everyone involved, even John Delahunty, in the individual bridge. Lovely to see Denzil Evans in our midst once again and Marjorie Wilkinson with her independence chariot. Winners: Wally Heaton, top score, for which he received the 'Summer Barbecue Salver' and bottle; second was Ray Bowen, third was Wendy Thornton. Strongest was secretary Irene Delahunty. There was a poignant scene following the enjoyable bridge, when chairman Tina presented a watercolour painting of a local scene by Graham Hadlow with the club's good wishes to Sheridan and Bernard Bradley for their new future in South Africa, which is imminent, with the hope that they will think of us occasionally. Sheridan (past chairman and committee member) and Bernard are much loved by all for their input during the last few years; they will be missed. Sheridan responded beautifully, thanking all for the pleasure our little club afforded Bernard and herself; a happy and tearful occasion. Faux pas of the day has to be Bert forgetting to take Marjorie home - a very senior moment! Duplicate bridge is played twice weekly at the Kilgetty Community Centre, Wednesday at 7 pm and Friday at 6.30 pm. Visitors and new membes are always welcome.
