Results: Wednesday, January 10, saw the start of the simultaneous fund-raising tournaments, which occur several times in the year and are thoroughly enjoyed by all.
There were well over 2,000 pairs participating and this one was markedly more difficult, judging by the top scores, which were lower than usual. With an eight table Mitchell in progress, the scores were (GBG placings in brackets) for North/South: 1. Margaret Day and Sheridan Bradley (443) 59.52 per cent; 2. Mary and John Hodgeon (647) 56.85; 3. Liz Crockford and Kevin Thomas (667) 54.76. East/ West: 1. Carmel Wiseman and Graham Hadlow (who was given a hero's welcome return cheer after serious illness) (159) 61.31; 2. Nicky Hancock and Peter Oeppen (383) 53.57; 3. Sue Enfield and Judy Lewis (772) 52.38.
