Last week's meeting at St. Florence Village Hall was results night for the panels competition. The judge for the night was Ian Ledgard, LRPS, AWPF, PSAI.
He was very impressed with the standard of the entries for this competition, and congratulated the club, on its membership, and the way it has grown, over the last few years, becoming one of the biggest clubs in South Wales.
He was very complimentary about the first panel of prints. These were five prints of Kingfishers, the first, showing the bird on the branch, then diving, then emerging from the water, complete with fish in its mouth, ascending back to its branch, and then on the branch, with fish in its mouth.
The next panel to be viewed, was walls and fences at St. Fagans. The judge liked the way in which the first print of slate fence posts led the eye into the panel, and the last one of a gate, led the eye back into the panel again.
The next panel was a selection of pictures of frogs and geckos, which he felt were very well executed, clear and sharp.
He moved on to the next panel which was entitled 'Mist Tryst'. This panel, of a young lady, waiting, told a story, which he felt was very well composed. The young lady waits, then checks her watch, then waits again, then realises she's been stood up, wipes away a tear and then walks off into the mist.
This was followed by a well balanced panel of bikers, which was symmetrically presented, with a horizontal print, then vertical one, then a horizontal one and so on. He felt there were very well presented, and well lit.
The next panel was entitled 'Relationships'. A selection of prints, in sepia mode, using ordinary household cutlery, representing 'Meeting', 'Togetherness', 'Entwining', 'Arguments' and 'Splitting Up'. The judge was very impressed with the work and the content, and the extraordinary and imaginative way the subject had been handled.
The final panel was some very striking prints of Gaudi Images, taken in Barcelona. These were very well lit and the colours were extremely vivid, with beautiful blue skies, as a backdrop to the mellow golden images.
After a break for refreshments, the judge gave his results which were: 1. Jill Baxter, for her panel 'Relationships', with 20 points; 2. Paul Richards with his Kingfisher panel, 19 points; 3. Roy Peters with his panel of Gaudi images.
The other members who took part were Roy Packer with 'Frogs and Geckos', 'Bikers' by Gillian Mackay, Ray Hine, with 'Walls and Fences' of St. Fagans, and Harry Gardiner with 'Mist Tryst'.
The next meeting will be on March 26 when the subject will be 'Software for Photographers'. For further information, please visit the website, http://www.tenby-camera-club.co.uk">www.tenby-camera-club.co.uk.
